Wells Fargo, AquaSox
team up for literacy
Wells Fargo and the Everett AquaSox are at it again — encouraging kids
to read. In March, the “Hit a Home Run in School” reading program kicked
off its seventh season, with more than 50 local schools participating.
The program, which lasts four weeks, rewards students on a weekly basis
for reaching their reading goals. Students who successfully achieve all
four reading goals receive a complimentary ticket to an AquaSox game.
Movie theater opens
at Alderwood
Loews Theatres Alderwood opened March 25 at the Alderwood mall, offering
theater-goers 16 screens of state-of-the-art movie technology. The theater,
which has a stadium-style seating capacity of 4,000, plans to offer a
number of special programs and rewards for customers, including its “Reel
Moms” series, in which parents and child-care providers can enjoy the
latest releases with their babies and young children during a special
weekly screening. Also, Loews’ “Kids Film Series” which showcases youth-friendly
movie fare one morning a week, will run for eight weeks during the summer.
Engineering firm
opens
a downtown Everett office
Structural and civil engineering firm KPFF Consulting Engineers has opened
an office at 2709 Wetmore Ave. in Everett. The company, which has 15 offices
and 650 employees nationwide, has played a role in the development of
the Everett Events Center and done design work for Naval Station Everett.
Structural engineer and Everett resident Joe Zlab will be heading up KPFF’s
Everett office, which can be reached by calling 425-259-6747.
Whidbey Coffee
on menu
at Everett Events Center
Whidbey Coffee is now brewing at the Everett Events Center. In an agreement
with the center and Centerplate Catering, the Freeland-based coffee maker’s
beans will be used for all drip coffee sold at concession stands within
the center and at two coffee carts serving premium coffee drinks. Besides
the Everett Events Center, the 14-year-old company’s coffee can be found
at six drive-through stands it operates in Island and Skagit Counties,
stands at Shoreline Community College and Skagit Valley Hospital and at
Whidbey’s Coffee Cafes in Mukilteo, Freeland and the Cascade Mall. The
company also operates a wholesale division, with bulk beans sold at supermarkets.
Banner Bank expands
with Alderwood branch
Banner Bank celebrated the opening of its Alderwood branch in March, complete
with a community ribbon-cutting ceremony. The new, 5,547-square-foot branch,
located at 3405 188th St. SW, offers a full range of services, drive-up
banking and an ATM.
‘Zippy’ the Cessna
lands
at EvCC’s aviation center
The Everett Community College Foundation and EvCC’s Aviation Maintenance
Technology Center welcomed the arrival of “Zippy” in March. The Cessna
C-210-5, a gift from Honeywell International Inc., is the newest addition
to the school’s training fleet of aircraft, and school officials celebrated
its arrival during a March 31 ceremony at the college’s Aviation Maintenance
Technology Center at Paine Field.
KaBloom takes root
in Mill Creek
Mill Creek Town Center has a new retail resident with the March grand
opening of KaBloom of Mill Creek. The European-style flower market, located
at 15415 Main St., Suite D-101, is the first of its franchise to open
in Snohomish County. KaBloom has its roots in the Boston area, with stores
now located across the country. The Mill Creek location is owned by Jenifer
Franklin and managed by her mother, Pat Franklin.
Vineyard Park marks
grand opening
Vineyard Park at Bothell Landing, a retirement community that opened late
last year offering independent-living services, now offers assisted-living
services as well. Managed by Regency Pacific Inc. of Issaquah, the 87-unit
facility celebrated its grand opening in March, with hors d’oeuvres, door
prizes and musical entertainment.
