Bryan Corliss Fluke Corp. has laid off almost three dozen workers at its Everett headquarters. The company blamed a softening economy for its decision to cut its work force. About 1,100 employees remain at the Everett plant, spokeswoman Meaghan Leland said. Between 30 and 35 people lost their jobs in the July 18 layoff. The company, which manufactures electronic test and measurement instruments, launched an aggressive cost-cutting campaign early in the year, hoping to avoid layoffs, Leland said. That minimized the job cuts. The layoffs came across the board and weren’t centered in any one division, she said. Affected employees are being offered a severance package and help finding other jobs. Fluke is one of Snohomish County’s largest employers. It was founded by John Fluke Sr., a contemporary of the founders of Hewlett-Packard Corp. Management remains confident about the company’s future, Leland said. “We have great people and great products, and will be well-positioned to take advantage of improvements in the overall economic environment,” she said. |
