Jobless rate rises
in state, county

Herald Business Journal Staff

The unemployment rate rose in Snohomish County and the state in June.

Washington’s unemployment rate rose by three-tenths of a percentage point, signaling weaker than usual growth in summertime jobs. The latest statewide jobless rate is 5.7 percent.

In the county, unemployment rose from 4.3 percent in May to 4.7 percent in June.

Unemployment usually drops in the summer, except during times when the economy is cooling, Employment Security Department Commissioner Sylvia Mundy said.
