Two area business leaders die
Stanley M. Thurman and Roy A. Robinson, two longtime leaders in Snohomish County’s business community, died recently.

Robinson, 73, died July 8 at home in Mukilteo. He established Roy Robinson Chevrolet in Marysville in 1967, later adding Subarus and motor homes there. He also co-owned several other dealerships around the Northwest and was a part owner of KRKO radio in Everett. He also was among the founders of Frontier Bank in Everett.

Thurman, 77, died June 30 in Edmonds. He and his brother opened a plumbing and electrical supply business in 1953 that later became Pay N’ Pak, once the leading home-improvement chain in the Northwest. Thurman was Chairman and CEO when the company went public in 1970. He also once served as a state representative.

Farhad Rowshanzamir and Jason Emoto, have joined Reid Middleton’s Structural Engineering Group. Rowshanzamir will serve as a senior structural engineer, designing buildings, bridges, retaining walls and seismic retrofits. Emoto has been a part of the company as a project engineer, designing buildings and seismic rehabilitations, for a year.

Robyn Harris, Corporate Sales Manager with American Pharmaceutical Partners, is the new President of the Everett branch of the American Association of University Women.

Kathy De Tuerk, owner/ manager of Sunrise Travel Center Inc. of Everett, is the new Governor of Rotary International’s District 5050, which serves northwest Washington and southwest British Columbia and encompasses 51 local Rotary service clubs with some 2,800 members.

Joseph I. Llona, P.E., Associate, with CDi Engineers of Lynnwood, has earned his Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Professional Accreditation through the U.S. Green Building Council.

Craig Goldsmith has joined Coast Real Estate Services of Everett as Vice President and Commercial Property Manager. Goldsmith comes to Coast by way of Olympic Capital Group of Lynnwood.

The Rev. Dr. Sanford Brown is the new Executive Director of Deaconess Children’s Services in Everett.

Nichole Hammond of Everett is Publicity Coordinator at Parenting Press Inc. of Seattle.

Christina Leuthard is an intern at Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital in Snohomish.

Nagesh Palepu is the new Senior Vice President and Chief Scientific and Technology Officer for Sonus Pharmaceuticals of Bothell.

Deborah M.S. Jordan, Director of Communications and Volunteer Management for Volunteers of America Western Washington, is leaving the agency to start her own consulting business — Bryson and Associates. Shelby A. Sutton, Director of Development, will take over as Director of Public Relations/Communications/ Volunteer Management, and Kathleen A. Barry, Assistant Director of Development, will take over the Development Department as Director of Development.

Duane Kuhlman, a longtime cattle breeder from Snohomish, has been named the 2001 Master Breeder of the American Jersey Cattle Association.

Dennis Bloom has joined Perteet Engineering Inc. as a Senior Project Manager for Transit Planning. He has more than 18 years of experience in transportation planning, policy development and transit operations and was most recently the Transportation Systems Manager for Everett Transit.

Robert C. Tauscher, President of Burlington-based Team Corp., has joined the Board of Directors of Horizon Financial Corp. He will serve on the boards of both Horizon Bank and Horizon Financial Corp.

Snohomish County PUD General Manager Paul Elias has been elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the American Public Power Association. His term will run through June 2002.

Kent Becraft has joined Windermere Real Estate’s Everett-South office as a sales associate.
