State
aviation division moves to Arlington

Wedged between a
Sears store and a hair salon, the aviation division of the state Department
of Transportation has landed in Arlington about one mile short of the
airport.
The aviation division,
which provides services to the state’s general aviation airports, left
Seattle after it appeared its rent would rise substantially by 2003 when
its lease expired. It has signed a five-year lease in a shopping plaza
along 172nd Street NE in the Smokey Point part of Arlington.
Eventually, the state
office could establish a presence at the airport itself, said John Sibold,
director of the office staff of 10.
“In five years, when
our lease is done, we will look to see if it makes good economic sense,”
he said.
