Washington CU changes name, eligibility

SCBJ Staff

Washington Credit Union has a new name, new look and new members.

Recently, the Mountlake Terrace-based financial institution changed its name to Washington’s Credit Union — and changed its signature green logo to dark blue and red.

“The name change to Washington’s Credit Union more clearly reflects who we are, serving the people of our state,” CEO Ron Blankenship said, referring to the credit union’s recent expansion of membership eligibility.

Previously open to all residents of Western Washington, membership to the credit union is now open to all those who live or work within Washington state or are related to someone living or working in Washington state.

During the past 18 months, the credit union also has added five new branches in the Poulsbo, Puyallup and Tacoma area, and members of three other credit unions — The Federal Credit Union, United Sound Community Credit Union and Credit Union of Puget Sound — voted to merge with Washington’s Credit Union.

Within the next year, Washington’s Credit Union expects to change all of its branch and ATM signs to the new name.

Founded in 1936, the $262 million credit union currently is 16th in asset size among credit unions in Washington state, serving 65,000 members with 14 branches, including locations in Bothell, Edmonds, Everett, Lynnwood and Marysville.
