The steel frame
of the new Lynnwood Convention Center was topped off in July, a major
milestone in completing the project. City officials expect it will
boost the local economy by attracting $10 million a year in midsize
meeting and convention business after it opens next spring, in addition
to stimulating significant retail and hospitality industry revenues
in the city. The 55,000-square-foot facility, being built at 37th
Avenue W. and 196th Street SW, adjacent to the I-5 freeway, will include
23,000 square feet dedicated to exhibition and meeting space. |
Everett Chamber
revamps Web site
The Everett Area Chamber of Commerce launched its new Web site, www.everettchamber.com,
in late July, offering a dramatically improved presentation in terms of
photos and organization. Be sure to check out the chamber’s new Business
Resource Center and watch for more developments as the business association
increases its services to area businesses.
Arlington Haggen
opens
The new Arlington Haggen food center and pharmacy opened July 28 at Highway
9 and 204th Street NE, offering everything from groceries and sundries
to deli foods and dry cleaning. It also includes an in-store branch of
Whidbey Island Bank and a Terra Vida coffee shop. The newest Haggen food
center in Snohomish County joins stores at Lake Stevens, Marysville and
Stanwood.
PhotoTunes founder
singing a happy tune
Artist and entrepreneur Richard Duval has a lot to celebrate of late.
His electronic greeting card company, Mill Creek-based PhotoTunes.com,
recently surpassed the 100,000 e-card mark, and the photographer/musician
was selected by the Kirkland Arts Center and the Kirkland Performance
Center as Artist of the Month for July. As part of that honor Duval displayed
selections from his photo series “A Touch of Jazz” and two of his scenic
fine-art prints in the lobby of the Kirkland Performance Center throughout
July. Also, from Aug. 10 to 24 “A Touch of Jazz” will be exhibited at
The Lakeshore Gallery in Kirkland, with an artist reception scheduled
from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 12.
Central Market
construction
The 46,000-square-foot Central Market, the southern anchor for Mill Creek’s
new Town Center, is coming together, with the walls up and the next stages
of construction beginning. The business is part of Town & Country Markets,
with stores in Shoreline and Poulsbo. As other buildings rise on the site,
the community’s new “downtown” is taking shape. Also, the extensive widening
of Highway 527 between 164th Street SE and Murphy’s Corner is awaiting
finished landscaping touches, but months of single-lane traffic jams have
disappeared.
