Business Excellence Awards

Members of the South Snohomish County Chamber of Commerce will gather with civic, gov-ernmental and business leaders to honor the best in local business practices from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 20610 44th Ave. W., in Lynnwood. Cost for the event is $27 for chamber members paying by July 31 and $32 for all others. Women Building Hope luncheon

The Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties is holding a Women Building Hope luncheon from noon to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 4 at the MBA Housing Center, 335 116th Ave. SE, in Bellevue. Attendees will learn about a new women’s coalition that supports women in the building industry. Cost to attend is $10, and registration is limited to the first 100 registrants. Free tax workshop for businesses
—Aug. 9
The Everett office of the Department of Revenue is holding a free “new business outreach” workshop to help new or small businesses understand how to report their state taxes. The session will be held from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. at the Everett Public Library, 2707 Hoyt Ave. More information is available at http://dor.wa.gov or by calling 425-356-2911. Revenue staff will explain the state’s excise taxes, answer questions and discuss tax reporting classifications, de-ductions and sales tax collection and record keeping requirements. Participants will receive a workbook that answers the most common questions asked by businesses, plus copies of department rules and regulations. New businesses will be able to arrange tax consultation visits to ensure they are reporting properly.

TOC for Education Conference
— Aug. 11-14
A worldwide group of educators, parents and business leaders will meet at the Embassy Suites hotel in Lynnwood for the eight-annual TOC session to present techniques for helping students to learn more effectively in school and life. The TOC (Theory of Constraints), a common sense thinking process developed by Dr. Eli Goodratt, and Israeli physicist and international business consultant, is designed to present ways to help students on WASL tests, resolving conflicts, solving problems and achieving continuous improvement. Government certification workshop
— Aug. 16
The Washington State Office of Minority and Women’s Business Enterprises is holding a free workshop, “Certification: Benefits & Process,” from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 16 at the SBA Education & Training Center, 1200 Sixth Ave., Suite 1700, in downtown Seattle. Attendees of the U.S. Small Business Administration-sponsored event will learn how to access federal and state contracting opportunities. Topics will include how certification can help a business, available financial assistance, available technical assistance and eligibility requirements for certification with the state and U.S. departments of transportation programs. “Good Morning, South County!”

The South Snohomish County Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly networking breakfast from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Aug. 19 at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 20610 44th Ave. W., in Lynnwood. Attendees should bring at least 30 business cards and be prepared to present their business with a one-minute “infomercial.” Display tables are available for marketing materials. Bothell chamber meeting
— Aug. 25
The Greater Bothell Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly general membership meeting from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Aug. 25 in the C.B. Blethen Room of the Seattle Times building, 19200 120th Ave. NE, in Bothell. There is no admission charge, and new members may give a brief presentation of their business.
