Personal-finance workshop to be offered in English, Spanish
During the past several months a group of Puget Sound-area professional women have been involved in planning Las Mujeres y el Dinero, or Women and Money, a “first of its kind” financial seminar for women.

Las Mujeres y el Dinero, una conferencia para mujeres que quieran aprendera como administrar mejor su dinero, se celebrará el 7 de mayo desde 9 a.m. hasta 3 p.m. a The Seattle Center House, 305 Harrison St., Seattle.

Aprende como abrir una cuenta corriente y hacer un presupuesto, ahorrar para la educación de tus niños, comprar una casa y saber que clase de seguros debes de comprar.

La conferencia es gratis (se dará cuidado de niños).

“It is the first of its kind because all of the classes/sessions will be given in both languages, Spanish and English,” said Rosario Arias de Carroll, a commercial loan officer for CityBank in Lynnwood and a member of the seminar’s planning committee.

Sponsored by the Women’s Bureau of the U.S. Department of Labor and the Seattle Center, the May 7 program at The Seattle Center House will teach attendees how to set up a checking account, set up and maintain a budget, save for their children’s education and buy a house. They also will learn what type of insurance to buy.

The free program will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Child care will be provided. To register, call 425-450- 4943.

Negotiating skills topic of seminar
The Women’s Network for Entrepreneurial Training, a program of the U.S. Small Business Administration, will hold a breakfast roundtable session titled “Let’s Make a Deal — Negotiating Skills” on May 12 in Everett.

Jeanette Nyden of Sound Resolutions will offer strategies and tips to help attendees negotiate better contracts, close more sales, deal with employees and secure satisfying deals with vendors. Nancy Wagner of Cut-to-the-Chase Marketing will offer a success story, detailing her progress in negotiating for new clients to build her growing company.

The program runs from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the NW Women’s Business Center, 728 134th St. SW, Everett. Cost is $20 pre-registered or $30 at the door. Pre-registration closes at 8 a.m. May 11.

Wi$e Up financial series to begin this month
A series of free personal-finance seminars will run from May through August as part of the Wi$e Up Program sponsored by the Women’s Bureau of the U.S. Department of Labor.

Targeted for women aged 22 to 35, the classes will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the YWCA of Snohomish County, 3301 Broadway, in Everett. The series includes “Money for Life” on May 10, “Money Math” on May 24, “Money Basics” on June 7, “Credit in a Money World” on June 21, “Savings Basics” on July 19, “Insurance and Risk Management” on Aug. 2, “Becoming an Investor” on Aug. 16, and “Achieving Financial Security” on Aug. 30.
