Community Transit’s
Van GO Program and the Community Voice Mail project were among those recognized
at the Human Services Council of Snohomish County’s 17th annual Partnerships
Forum Awards breakfast.
The breakfast, held
in late October at the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel in Everett, was an opportunity
for the council to honor businesses and community organizations whose
collaborative efforts have had a positive impact on the county.
One of those efforts
was CT’s Van GO Program, which was awarded the Large Business Partnerships
Award. Through the program, the transit agency grants surplus vans and
mini-buses to nonprofit agencies throughout the county.
Also during the breakfast,
Community Voice Mail was awarded a Collaboration Award for its efforts
to provide the “phoneless” of Snohomish County with 24-hour access to
their own private, safe, personal telephone messages. More than 30 organizations
worked on the project, including Citizens Against Sexual and Domestic
Abuse, WorkSource, Housing Hope and Compass Health.
Mentors Matter, a
school-based mentoring program, also received a Collaboration Award. With
the help of collaborating agencies — Big Brothers Big Sisters of Snohomish
County, Communities in Schools, Everett Public Schools and the Everett
Public Schools Foundation — the program recruits, screens, trains, matches
and supports adult volunteers to work with students who would benefit
from the special attention of a School Big Brother or Big Sister.
Others recognized
by the council were the Snohomish County Youth Meth Action Team, which
won the Youth Collaboration Award; Girl Scout Troop No. 1998, which received
the Youth Collaboration Award Honorable Mention; and Seth Dawson, who
received the Liz McLaughlin Award of Excellence for commitment to excellence
in the delivery and maintenance of quality human services.
