ACCOUNTING
Richard Toyer,
a certified public accountant and investment adviser, was presented with an outstanding service award from the GE Independent Accountants Network at a recent convention in Chicago.

EDUCATION
Warren Buck, chancellor at the University of Washington’s Bothell campus, was recently presented with an Impact Award by his alma mater, The College of William and Mary. Buck formed the college’s Black Student Association and continues to be involved through work with two alumni associations.

ENGINEERING
Julian Dodge and Damon McAlister recently were promoted to senior engineers at Reid Middleton Inc. David and Michelle Mach recently were promoted to project engineers at Reid Middleton. Both Machs recently passed the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying Principle and Practice exam, receiving professional engineer licenses. Benjamin Balberdi recently was promoted to marketing coordinator at Reid Middleton.

Galan McInelly has been promoted to office manager for the Redmond, Seattle and Everett offices of GeoEngineers.

FINANCIAL
Bruce Farnham has been appointed business banker and sales manager for the business banking division of Cascade Bank. He has more than 25 years of banking experience as a business banker, commercial loan officer and branch manager.

Certified public accountant Gordon E. Budke recently was elected to the board of directors of Banner Corp., the parent company of Banner Bank.

Dennis Painter has been appointed vice president and commercial loan officer at Everett-based Coastal Community Bank. A resident of Oak Harbor, he has 30 years of banking experience. Jennifer Lang has been appointed assistant vice president of Coastal Community Bank. Lang, who has been serving as the bank’s information systems officer, will continue in that role.

John S. Williams has been promoted to chief credit officer at Everett-based EverTrust Bank. He will be responsible for setting the institution’s credit policies, loan structures, prices, credit administration and financial analysis.

Gregory Jensen of the north Marysville office of Edward Jones was named to the All-American Team of The American Funds Group of mutual funds for sales results.

Judy Hassing has joined Whidbey Island Bank as a commercial lending officer at the Smokey Point branch.

GOVERNMENT
Norm Proctor has been named the Office of Advocacy’s regional advocate for the federal government’s Region X, covering Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. In this position, Proctor is the direct link between small-business owners, state and local government agencies, state legislators, small-business associations and the Office of Advocacy of the U.S. Small Business Administration.

HOSPITALITY
Susan York is the new sales manager at Northgate Hotels and Restaurants, which owns the Hampton Inn & Suites in Lynnwood, the Best Western Cambridge Inn in Everett and the Ramada Inn and Berkshire Grill at Northgate. She’ll be based in Lynnwood.

INSURANCE
Scott Murphy of Everett has been promoted to senior financial officer for Safeco Surety. A certified public accountant, he will be responsible for planning, budgeting and accounting for the surety business unit of Seattle’s Safeco Corp. Murphy is also president of the Everett Public Schools Foundation.

William F. Waterworth of Silvana is a new agent for Country Insurance & Financial Services. He has 16 years of insurance industry experience. Waterworth’s office is at 2122 164th St. SW, Suite 301, Lynnwood. The number is 425-745-5538.

NONPROFIT
Dean Felthous has been appointed planned giving manager for Providence General Foundation. He has been in the trust and investment-management industry for more than 25 years and has served on several Snohomish County charitable boards, including Providence General Foundation, Hospice and Home Care of Snohomish County and Big Brothers/Big Sisters.

Bill Kelly has joined the board of directors for Bridgeways, an Everett mental-health agency. Kitty Simmons has joined the organization as organizational development coordinator.

ORGANIZATIONS
John Mohr, executive director of the Port of Everett, recently was appointed the U.S. delegation chair for the American Association of Port Authorities, an alliance of ports of the Western Hemisphere including the major shipping ports from the United States, Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean.

New officers for the Snohomish County Tourism Bureau include Bill Rode, general manager of the Best Western Cambridge Inn, chairman; Bob Jammerman, general manager of the Marriott Town Place Suites, chairman-elect; Jan Conner, general manager of Edmonds Harbor Inn, treasurer; Bill Bagley, manager of Boeing Tour Center, secretary; and John Wilkins, Olympic Ballet Theatre, past chairman.

REAL ESTATE
Stanley Athan has joined John L. Scott’s Lynnwood West office as a real estate agent. He previously worked in sales.

SERVICE
Catherine Kessel, owner of American Quilt Works of Marysville, recently attended two national conferences to increase her quilting and business skills: the Association of Pacific Northwest Quilters “Quiltfest 2002” and “Innovations — A Machine Quilting Conference,” both in Seattle.

Tom Stiger of Everett’s Bayside Floor Supply recently earned the designation of certified flooring executive from the World Floor Covering Association of Anaheim, Calif.
