Computer forensics
class — Dec. 3
People who want to know more about the network security issues facing
their business or who are considering a career in information security
and computer forensics can begin by taking a free class at Edmonds Community
College. “Security — An Overview,” taught by Steve Hailey, a computer
information systems instructor at the college, will be held from noon
to 4 p.m. Dec. 3 in Snohomish Hall, Room 110, at EdCC, 20000 68th Ave.
W., Lynnwood. The class will include information about the types of hacker
attacks launched against networks, how to protect data when connected
to the Internet, how computer security issues affect the workplace and
computer security measures to take to protect the workplace. For more

Identity-theft
seminar — Dec. 7
A seminar on how to protect businesses and individuals from identity theft,
sponsored by the South Snohomish County Chamber of Commerce and Horizon
Bank, will take place from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Dec. 7 at the Best Western
Alderwood, 19332 36th Ave. W., in Lynnwood. Ed Etzel and Joe Nathans of
the recently formed National Identity Protection Bureau will be featured
speakers, and a continental breakfast is included with the cost of admission,
which is $10 per person or $8 for chamber members who prepay reservations

Everett Chamber
Awards Gala — Dec. 9
The Everett Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Awards Gala
from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Everett Events Center, 2000 Hewitt
Ave. The Henry M. Jackson Citizen of the Year, Corporate Executive of
the Year, Small Business Executive of the Year and Dick Stephens Community
Caring are among the awards to be presented at the “black-tie optional”
event, which will feature a 5:30 p.m. reception, followed by dinner and
the program at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $65 per attendee. Company tables of 10

EDC dinner celebration
— Dec. 14
The Snohomish County Economic Development Council will hold its annual
Year-end Dinner Celebration from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Everett
Golf & Country Club, 1500 52nd St. SE. Cost is $50 per person or $600
for a reserved table of 10. Reservations must be made by Dec. 7. For more

Marketing workshop
— Dec. 21
The Service Corps of Retired Executives is holding a marketing and sales
workshop from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 21 at the SBA Business Enterprise
Center, 1200 Sixth Ave., Suite 1700, in Seattle. The event, sponsored
by the U.S. Small Business Administration, will focus on marketing plan
development and include information about advertising, public relations
and market research. Lunch and take-home materials are included in the

“Good Morning,
Snohomish County!” — Jan. 14
The Everett Area Chamber of Commerce and South Snohomish County Chamber
of Commerce have teamed up to hold “Good Morning, Snohomish County!” From
7:15 to 9 a.m. Jan. 14 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Lynnwood. The networking
breakfast will include display tables for marketing materials, and attendees
are invited to bring a door prize to promote their businesses. Cost of
the event is $18 for chamber members and $21 for nonmembers. For more
