Construction is expected to begin this month on Phase II of River Crossing, a Mill Creek community developed jointly by John F. Buchan Homes and William Buchan Homes.

Located off Bothell-Everett Highway at 153rd Street SE, River Crossing is just miles away from Interstates 5 and 405, yet maintains a tranquil atmosphere thanks to nearby preserved natural wetlands and surrounding stands of evergreens, said Louis Howard, vice president of marketing and sales for Bellevue-based John F. Buchan Homes.

The varied rooflines and tree-lined roads, a signature look of Buchan communities, also adds to the charm.

“We take particular care in how we set houses, creating a boulevard effect, with rolling streets and lush landscaping. ... We also carefully select our development partners in order to maintain a consistent upscale neighborhood feel,” Howard said.

In the case of River Crossing, John F. Buchan and brother William Buchan partnered on the 51-lot Phase I, which is nearly completed, Howard said, with John F. Buchan Homes developing the 11-lot Phase II and, in early 2004, the 34-lot Phase III.

River Crossing’s three- and four-bedroom homes, designed with at least 3,000 square feet and priced in the mid-$500,000 range, come equipped with the highest quality interior finishes, Howard said, from hardwood floors and crafted millwork to marble and granite accents. Dens and bonus rooms are among the design amenities.

Sales have been healthy for River Crossing’s Phase I, Howard said, noting that the developers thought of the area as a premium location for their higher-end homes when they began construction in mid-2000.

To go along with those homes, the Buchans are in the midst of developing the Mill Creek Town Center project, which is adjacent to River Crossing to the east. Described as a retail/community center, the project is expected to include an array of retailers as well as pedestrian and bikeway amenities and preserved wetlands and environment areas that include North Creek and Mill Creek.
