Zonta Club of Everett — monthly meetings
The Zonta Club of Everett holds its business meeting on the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 a.m., with its program meeting held on the third Thursday of each month at noon. Both meetings are held at the Everett Golf & Country Club. Membership is by invitation only.

The local club is part of Zonta International, a worldwide organization of executives in business and the professions working to advance the status of women.

Auction to benefit junior hockey — Feb.6
The Seattle Junior Hockey Association will hold its “All That Glitters is Goals! SJHA Annual Auction” at the Everett Events Center on Feb. 6. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with a silent auction. Dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m., with the live auction starting at 8:15 p.m. The auction benefits local kids (ages 5 to 18 years of age) who play hockey.

Items to be auctioned include a Lake Tahoe Vacation, 27-inch DVD-ready color television, Desert Canyon Golf Weekend and a Mariners suite for four.

Marine refrigeration workshop — Feb. 9
A marine refrigeration certification workshop will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 9 in the Nordby Conference Center at Fishermen’s Terminal in Seattle. The workshop deals with the Environmental Protection Agency’s marine refrigeration certification test. Certification is required for commercial fishermen to buy Freon or do repair work on their refrigeration systems.

The program is sponsored by the Washington Sea Grant Program at the University of Washington and by Integrated Marine Systems of Port Townsend. The cost is $75. For details on how to reserve a spot, call Sarah Frisken at 206-543-1225.

Compensation trends, strategies talk
— Feb. 12

“Compensation Trends and Strategies” will be the topic when the Northwest Human Resource Management Association’s Snohomish County chapter meets from noon to 1:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Quality Inn & Conference Center, 101 128th St. SE, Everett.

The speaker will be Doug Sayed from Applied HR Strategies Inc. The cost is $20 for chapter members, $25 for nonmembers.

Tax seminar for home-based businesses — Feb. 10, March 16
Edmonds Community College will host a seminar on tax strategies for home-based businesses from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 10 and March 16 at Mountlake Terrace Hall 106, Edmonds Community College, 20000 68th Ave. W., Lynnwood.

Economic forecast — Feb. 12
Frontier Bank will present its annual “Economic Forecast” for Snohomish County from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Feb. 12 at the Everett Golf & Country Club, 1500 52nd St. in Everett. Michael Parks, editor and publisher of Marple’s Pacific Northwest Letter will be the featured speaker, presenting his economic outlook for 2004.

Leadership workshop — Feb. 26
Warm Beach Christian Camps and Conference Center in Stanwood will host “Mentoring: The Art of Leadership Development,” a workshop exploring leadership development thought and a variety of models for mentoring.

The Feb. 26 workshop, which will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., will feature Walter Wright, an author, educator and executive director of the De Pree Leadership Institute in Pasadena, Calif., who regularly speaks to diverse groups of religious, nonprofit and corporate communities.

United Way’s wills seminars
— throughout 2004

The United Way of Snohomish County is holding basic wills seminars throughout 2004 at its office, 917 134th St. SW, Suite B-1, in Everett. Dates include March 17, May 19, July 21, Sept. 15 and Oct. 20.
