Snohomish City Council
lists goals for 2005

During its goal-setting workshop in January, the Snohomish City Council created a list of priority projects for the year ahead, including: support of economic development for the Bickford Corridor, moving ahead with the sewer trunk line, construction of a visitor information center, completion of the rewrite of the city’s development code, completion of the streetscape plan for the historic downtown area and construction of new sidewalks.

Other goals on the list are implementation of a compensation study for city employees and support of residents’ efforts to form a parks and recreation district.

Construction under way
at Everett Mall’s Village

Heavy machinery was put to work at the Everett Mall in mid-January, with the demolition of thousands of feet of concrete in preparation for The Village. The new development, just west of the main mall complex, will include 100,000 square feet of retail space and tenants such as Best Buy, Aaron Brothers and Bed Bath & Beyond.

In addition to the demolition and disposal of the previous parking lot, current utilities will be relocated and upgraded; West Mall Drive will be relocated to the western parameter of the property; new curbing and landscaping will be installed; and concrete pads will be developed and delivered to the retailers to begin construction in March.

Everett Events Center
ends year on high note

The Everett Events Center ended 2004 with high marks from the industry’s four leading publications — Venues Today, Billboard Magazine, Amusement Business and Pollstar Magazine.

In the December issue of Venues Today, the center was ranked seventh in the world for venues with a capacity of 5,001 to 10,000 for the time period of Oct. 15, 2003 to Oct. 15, 2004.

In the December issue of Billboard Magazine and sister publication, Amusement Business, the Everett Events Center was ranked ninth in the world for venues with a capacity of 5,001 to 10,000 for the time period of Nov. 19, 2003 to Sept. 16, 2004.

The above rankings were based on total gross ticket sales, while also highlighting significant numbers such as attendance and number of shows.

And in the Jan. 10 issue of Pollstar Magazine, the Everett Events Center was ranked 50th in the world for all venues based on total sold tickets (176,551) for the time period of Jan. 1, 2004 to Dec. 31, 2004.

Hockey events were not included in any of the ranking tabulations.
