Conference focuses
on Olympic projects
for contractors

The 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver, British Columbia, are still five years away, but savvy engineering and construction contractors are discovering there’s a lot of opportunity to get involved in Olympics-related projects between now and then — $10 billion worth of opportunity.

Fortunately, the Snohomish County Workforce Development Council is helping to promote awareness of those opportunities throughout the construction industry in the county. Its latest venture is a half-day conference on how local construction firms can find out about the coming facilities and infrastructure that need to be in place before the games begin.

The conference, set for March 17 at Lynnwood’s Embassy Suites Hotel from 7:30 a.m. to noon, will focus on:

  • Which Olympic venue facilities and non-Olympic infrastructure projects are planned by the Canadian and British Columbia governments.
  • How to navigate through the British Columbia procurement system.
  • How to match a company’s strengths with British Columbia businesses to increase success in bidding and performance for those construction projects.

Registering online for the limited-seating program, at $50 per person, should be done by March 11, according to Vance Titus, the WDC’s Construction Skills panel coordinator.

For registration or more information, visit the WDC’s Web site, www.worksourceonline.com. Conference sponsors include the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties and the Associated Builders and Contractors of Western Washington.
