for United Way

The United Way of Snohomish County and Comcast announced in January the signing of a sponsorship agreement between the local cable company and nonprofit agency.

Under the deal, Comcast will be the broadcast media partner for United Way and provide funding for the launch of a new Web site dedicated to helping parents.

“Comcast is committed to the local community, and working with United Way allows us to make a significant impact,” said Len Rozek, senior vice president for Comcast’s Washington state market. “Our hope is that the United Way of Snohomish County can utilize our production and advertising skills as well as our broadband technology to raise awareness of their programs and help more people.”

“Comcast has been a supportive sponsor, and we’re very excited about this new level of involvement in United Way and its mission,” said Deborah Squires, vice president of marketing and communications for United Way.

The sponsorship agreement includes the donation of production to create public service announcements for the United Way of Snohomish County as well as the donation of thousands of dollars of free airtime to run those announcements across cable networks throughout the year.

In addition, Comcast has agreed to give $10,000 to the United Way of Snohomish County to support United Way’s “Success By 6” early-childhood initiative by sponsoring a new Web site to help parents. United Way’s Parent Place will “go live” later this year with a searchable database of resources for parents, the organization said.

The database already is under way as part of “Success By 6,” an initiative that prepares children to succeed in school by helping them develop emotionally and socially.

“Helping families and kids through a resource such as the Parent Place is a particularly good fit for Comcast and their goals for community involvement,” Squires said.
