ACCOUNTING
Craig Forbes has been promoted to manager of tax services at Hascal, Sjoholm & Co. PS. Forbes, a certified public accountant, has been with the Everett firm since 1998. He is a member of the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He received his accounting degree from Western Washington University in 1997.

AVIATION
The Paine Field chapter of the Washington Pilots Association recently honored several of its members at their annual banquet, including:

• Robert (Mitch) Mitchell, who was presented with the award for Sparkplug of the Year for his enthusiasm, talent and leadership.
• Goodrich Aviation Technical Services, which was presented with the Sponsor of the Year award.
• Kevin Kelly, who was presented with the Pilot of the Year award for his efforts to support the chapter in many areas, including taking over as director of the Aviation Academy.

BIOTECH
Robert Herbold has been appointed to the board of directors at ICOS Corp., a biotechnology company headquartered in Bothell, effective March 16.

BUSINESS SERVICES
Christine Vicino has been promoted to assistant manager at Business Extension Service, an answering service and call center with an office in Marysville. She will be responsible for hiring, staff development and training, and customer service. A 2004 graduate of Western Washington University, Vicino is currently studying human resources management at WWU.

CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE
Arlan Hatloe was presented with the Everett Area Chamber of Commerce’s top honor, the Henry M. Jackson Citizen of the Year award, during the chamber’s Annual Gala in December. Hatloe, an Everett businessman, member of the City Council and a seven-year member of the chamber board, was recognized for his many years of service to the organization and to the business community in general.

Others honored during the event include:

• Everett artist Bernie Webber, who received a special lifetime-achievement award.
• Randy Lyman of Randy’s Ring & Pinion, who was named Corporate Executive of the Year.
• Andy Hall of Botesch, Nash and Hall Architects, who was named Small Business Executive of the Year.
• Todd Morrow of Community Transit, who was awarded with the Dick Stephens Community Caring Award.
• Former Snohomish County PUD Commissioner Cynthia First and U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen, D-Wash, who were recognized with the Service to Business award.
• Sally Kortekaas of The Herald, who was recognized with the Chairman’s Award for her work chairing the chamber’s business assistance division.
• Linda Johannes, Everett Mall manager and a chamber board member since 1991, who was recognized with the President’s Award.
• Naval Station Everett, which was named Employer of the Year.
• Kristi Keene, Everett Mall marketing director, who was named Employee of the Year.
• Stephanie Broome of Stargate Technologies, who was named Ambassador of the Year.
• Verizon Northwest, which was named Friend of the Chamber.
• Sue Closser of Sunrise Services, who was named the Northwest Women’s Business Center Woman Entrepreneur of the Year.

CONSTRUCTION
Snohomish-based Snyder Roofing of Washington LLC has hired Art Case as estimator/project manager. Formerly with Edmonds Roofing, Case has more than 20 years of experience in the roofing industry.

EDUCATION
Sterling Sankey, Laura Sonmore and Stephen James Hyde have been honored as Edmonds Community College Foundation’s 2004 Distinguished Alumni. Sankey is the national training executive for premier and small-business banking and senior vice president at Bank of America. He worked full-time in sales positions while he earned his associate of arts degree in 1983 from EdCC. Two years later, he completed his bachelor’s degree in business administration at Western Washington University. Sonmore is a member of the City Council of Mountlake Terrace and a Boeing employee. She earned an associate of technical arts in paralegal and graduated with a transfer degree in 1992 from Edmonds Community College. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in law and justice at Central Washington University and is now earning a master’s degree in project management from City University. Hyde is a Ph.D. candidate studying geography at the University of Washington and an instructor in an evening certificate program. He earned his associate of arts degree in 1993 at Edmonds Community College. He has since earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in geography at UW.

Michael Martino, chief executive officer of Sonus Pharmaceuticals in Bothell, has been appointed as a trustee for Cascadia Community College by Gov. Gary Locke. Martino, who sits on the president’s advisory board of Roanoke College, also is a member of the executive committee and immediate past chairman of the board of the Washington Biotechnology and Biomedical Association. He has served as a member of the Cascadia Community College Foundation board since 2002.

Carl Young has been named interim director of communications and marketing for Cascadia Community College. He succeeds Suzanne Ames, who has left the college to become the director of communications for the Washington state Board of Community and Technical Colleges in Olympia.

FINANCIAL
Investment banker Dale Scott has been promoted to investment officer at Frontier Bank’s Investment Center. He has more than 10 years of banking experience and has been with Frontier Bank for one year. He formerly was with Pacific Northwest Bank.

GOVERNMENT
Nancy Gilbertson has been appointed U.S. Small Business Administration district director for the state of Washington. Gilbertson previously served as the district director for South Dakota, where she was responsible for the delivery of SBA’s programs and services throughout the state. Gilbertson joined the SBA in 1987 in Anchorage, Alaska. She served as the assistant district director for business development in the Fresno, Calif., and Minnesota district offices before her 1999 promotion to deputy district director in Minnesota. Prior to government service, Gilbertson spent 10 years working in commercial banking in North Dakota and Alaska. She also has personal small-business experience, having been involved in a family-owned general contracting business for the past 20 years.

HEALTH CARE
Drs. Geoffrey Ferguson and Sanjiv Parikh of Radia Medical Imaging of Everett recently were named “Top Docs” by the Center for the Study of Services, an independent, nonprofit consumer organization that has published the list of “Top Docs” nationally since 1999.

Massage therapist Melinda Guertin, who has practiced in the area for more than 10 years, recently joined Mukilteo Physical Therapy, a part of Integrated Rehabilitation Group. Also, Alessia Ramirez, a physical therapist assistant, has joined Integrated Rehabilitation Group’s Granite Falls Physical Therapy, where she will be providing treatment including manual techniques, therapeutic exercise instruction and Pilates-based exercises.

INSURANCE
Thomas Vincent of Arlington has been promoted to regional sales director with AmeriPan Corp., a provider of discounted health benefits.

NONPROFITS
Martha Robins is a new member of the board of directors of the Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Robins is the executive office administrator for Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon. 

Deborah Parker has been elected treasurer and Tim Blair has been elected vice president of the nonprofit group Choice & Consequence. Current board members Gordon McElroy and Rima Blackwell now will serve as secretary and president, respectively, for the next two years. Former President Barbara Otonicar continues to offer her human resource expertise to the group.

REAL ESTATE
Sales associates Konstantin Boyarchuk and Linda Wise have joined Preview Properties Inc.’s Bothell office, and sales associate Kevin Keo has joined Preview’s Everett office.

SECURITY
Kevin Hoskins is the new sales director for Western Washington for Whatcom Security Agency, which provides trained professional security officers for foot and mobile patrol, alarm response, special events and construction sites. In his new position, Hoskins will be responsible for developing new accounts for unarmed and armed security officers from Blaine to Tacoma. The agency’s local office is in Marysville.

SPORTS
Dan Lewis has been promoted to general manager of the Everett AquaSox, and Todd Holterhoff has been promoted to director of special projects. Lewis began his career with the ballclub in 1998, serving as director of operations, and now will transition into a greater leadership role, working closely with the vice president of baseball operations, Pete Carfagna. Holterhoff currently works as a group sales associate and will return for his third season coordinating the organization’s special events.
