BIOTECH
Dr. Jonathan Said has joined the scientific advisory board of CombiMatrix
Molecular Diagnostics, a subsidiary of Mukilteo’s CombiMatrix. He is a
board-certified pathologist and a chief pathologist at the UCLA Medical
Center.
CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE
Sen. Maria Cantwell recently received an Award of Excellence from
the Everett Area Chamber of Commerce for her work on behalf of businesses
in Washington state. Cantwell earned the Service-to-Business award for
her efforts to provide jobs, boost the local economy and champion small
business, and for her work to support Washington’s high-tech sector and
back Edmonds and Everett community colleges in their partnership with
Boeing. The chamber also has honored three supporters of the new Future
of Flight Aviation Center and Boeing Tour facility, including Barry
Smith, head of the center, who was honored for coming up with and
championing the idea for the center; and Dave Waggoner and Bill
Lewellen, both of the Snohomish County Airport at Paine Field, who
were honored for shepherding the project. Others receiving Everett chamber
honors include Travis Snider as Henry M. Jackson Citizen of the
Year, Dennis Bolger as Ambassador of the Year, Andrew Ballard
for the Chairman’s Award, John Edwards for the President’s
Award and Reid Shockey of Shockey/Brent for Small Business Executive
of the Year. Eric Christensen was named Employee of the Year, and
Carol Nelson, president of Cascade Bank, was named Corporate Executive
of the Year.
EDUCATION
Pala Froude has been named department chair for general education
at ITT Technical Institute’s Everett campus. Froude will direct the implementation
of a major campus initiative to ensure the effective delivery of general
education courses within the framework of five schools of study in which
ITT offers both associate and bachelor’s degrees.
The Everett Public
Schools Foundation has named nine new board members to round out the 26-member
group. New members include: Correne Bonkowski, an early-learning
specialist at Cedar Cross Cooperative Preschool in Mill Creek; Ken
Bosman, owner of Pilchuck Books in Everett and a retired educator;
Mary Decker, a certified public accountant with Hascal, Sjoholm
& Co.; Suzanne Eklund-Grayum, a real estate agent with Windermere
Real Estate; Brian Higginbotham, general manager at Durham School
Services; Mike Mustell, a retired educator and the manager of the
Evergreen Stadium Flowers; Barb Renard, a program manager with
Verizon; Jeffery Russell, pastor at Central Lutheran Church; and
Deborah Woltring, a retired teacher.
The University of
Washington, Bothell, has selected Elaine Kraft as director of public
relations and communications. Kraft recently held the position of communications
director for King County.
ENGINEERING &
ENVIRONMENTAL
Brent Koos, Briana Lawrence and Melissa Phillips have joined
Shockey/Brent Inc. Koos, AutoCAD design planner, is a 14-year veteran
in project design. Lawrence, a wetland scientist, is a natural resource
consultant. Phillips, an environmental specialist, has previous experience
in the public sector working with Skagit and Pierce counties, the Federal
Highway Administration and the cities of Renton and Sumner.
Jay LaVassar
has joined PSI’s Mountlake Terrace office as construction services department
manager. LaVassar is a graduate of the University of Washington with a
bachelor of arts in history and a bachelor of science in civil engineering.
FINANCIAL
Janie Yu has been named community banking district manager for
Wells Fargo’s Sno/King District. She leads more than 75 team members in
nine Wells Fargo stores throughout King and Snohomish counties. Yu is
a nine-year Wells Fargo team member and previously worked as a market
manager overseeing Wells Fargo’s Overlake and Redmond banking stores.
Also, Leslie Somes has been named vice president and senior business
banking relationship manager for the Everett area, and Mitchell Kodama
has been named credit analyst for Wells Fargo.
Cynthia Nygren
has been named assistant vice president and manager of Cascade Bank’s
Clearview branch in Snohomish. Nygren has more than 15 years of banking
experience and has worked extensively in the consumer and small-business
banking arenas. Oystein Setvik has been named vice president and
credit operations manager for Cascade Bank. Setvik has more than 30 years
of experience in the finance industry. His most recent position was as
a credit analyst for the Federal Home Loan Bank in Seattle. Derek Andrews
has been named vice president and business banker for Cascade Bank. Andrews
has more than 20 years of experience in commercial banking and finance.
His office is in the bank’s main branch on Colby Avenue in Everett.
Longtime banker Julie
Elliott has been promoted to new accounts officer at Frontier Bank’s
Evergreen Way Office. She has been in banking for 19 years, and all of
that time has been with Frontier Bank.
Shelley Brunelle,
Brian Armstrong and Jan Thompson Whitson are new loan officers
for Horizon Bank in Snohomish County. Brunelle is in Marysville; Armstrong
is in Lynnwood; and Thompson Whitson is in Everett.
HEALTH CARE
Jennifer Chesnut, an athletic trainer certified, a certified strength
conditioning specialist and a sports nutrition specialist has joined the
Integrated Rehabilitation Group and will divide her time treating patients
at Granite Falls Physical Therapy and providing athletic training at Granite
Falls High School.
Pavan Behl
is the new manager for India operations for SonoSite, a Bothell maker
of hand-held ultrasound equipment.
Keith Klein
of Summit Rehabilitation in Lake Stevens recently earned his diploma in
manual and manipulative therapy through the Canadian Physical Therapy
Association’s orthopedic division.
INSURANCE
Everett Allstate insurance agent Paul Gray recently earned the
Personal Financial Representative title. Gray will now be able to offer
his customers variable annuity, variable life and mutual fund products
in addition to auto, homeowner and traditional life insurance products.
Prudential Insurance
agent Yong Chang of Lynnwood recently received a Prudential CARES
Volunteer Grants Award of $250 for the Korean Community Counseling Center
to benefit the Seattle-Washington State Korean Association.
NONPROFITS
Janna Kurrle has been elected vice president of the board of Choice
& Consequence, a nonprofit organization that presents “The Real Inside
Story,” a substance abuse prevention program. Kurrle works for the Mountlake
Terrace Police Department.
REAL ESTATE
Layne Sapp, founder and chief executive officer of wholesale mortgage
lender MILA, recently was named a finalist for Ernst & Young’s annual
Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

Scott Real Estate; Christine Viernes of Real Estate Executives
