ACCOUNTING
Christie G. Harvey of John Friends PS Certified Public Accountants recently earned Enrolled Agent certification from the Internal Revenue Service. Certification requires passing an examination by the IRS, which covers taxation of individuals, corporations, partnerships, estates and trusts, procedures and ethics. Harvey, who has been with the firm of John Friends for 17 years, is a resident of Lynnwood.

CONSTRUCTION
Alex Nguyen
has joined Lynnwood-based Aecon Buildings Inc. as a senior estimator. Nguyen has been in the construction industry for the past decade. In his new position, he will be responsible for preparing budget numbers for both negotiated and hard bid projects.

EDUCATION
Barry Kotlove, economics instructor at Edmonds Community College, and Dorothy Brandt, an accounting instructor at Everett Community College, recently received the Advancing the Dream award from Central Washington University. Central created the award to recognize that the instruction, encouragement and support given by instructors at community colleges leads many students to pursue a bachelor’s degree.

Cascadia Community College founding faculty Catherine Crain-Thoreson recently joined the Oxford Round Table in England to discuss human rights and gender discrimination. She was one of 35 people invited to join the prestigious roundtable discussion. Crain-Thoreson teaches sex and gender at Bothell-based Cascadia, as well as psychology and education.

Bob Smithson, the director of athletics for the Everett school district, has been recognized as a Certified Athletic Administrator by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.

ENGINEERING
Lance Robinson and Kurt Watanabe have joined Higa Burkholder Associates of Everett. Robinson is an engineering technician with 24 years’ experience. Watanabe is a civil engineer who specializes in commercial, residential and transportation engineering.

FINANCIAL
Jo-Anne Kernan has been hired as assistant vice president and retail office manager for Horizon Bank’s newly opened Lynnwood office. Kernan has 17 years of banking experience. She formerly worked at First Mutual Bank, where she was the Ballard branch manager and handled consumer lending and small-business lending.

Rhea Winberg has been hired as retail office manager for Horizon Bank’s Murphy’s Corner office. Winberg has more than 20 years of experience with various financial institutions.

Maureen Main has joined Frontier Bank’s trust department as vice president and senior trust officer. She previously was a senior trust administrator with North Trust Co. in Florida, and Harris Trust and Savings Bank in Chicago.

Laura Hansen has joined Frontier Bank’s trust department as assistant vice president and senior trust officer. She most recently was with Charles Schwab in San Diego.

Lorie Hulbert has rejoined Frontier Bank as vice president and commercial loan officer at the bank’s Evergreen Way office. Most recently a manager for Western Bank/Washington Mutual in Oregon, Hulbert formerly worked for 13 years at Frontier’s Marysville office.

Joanna Yen Tran has been appointed assistant security officer of Frontier’s bank security department. She has 21 years of banking experience in information security, commercial loan accounting and capital market/trust division.

Bruce Wolford has been promoted to MIS officer of Frontier’s management information department. He has 14 years of banking experience and previously worked for Skagit State Bank of Burlington.

Cheryl Martin has been promoted to operations officer in account services at Frontier. She has eight years of banking experience and previously worked for Columbia River Bank of The Dalles, Ore.

Michele Bye has been promoted to vice president at Frontier Bank She previously was an assistant vice president, assistant manager and loan officer at the bank’s main office.

Carol Wheeler has been named chief financial officer of Frontier Financial Corp., the holding company for Frontier Bank. She previously was a senior vice president and the bank’s internal auditor.

Brian Carnahan of Snohomish, a district representative for Modern Woodmen of America, recently completed a five-day educational program at the fraternal financial-service organization’s Illinois home office.

Martin Heimbigner has been elected to the board of directors of CityBank of Lynnwood. He is a partner in the accounting firm of Tatum CFO Partners LLP.

HEALTH CARE
Karsten Blake has joined Everett Bone & Joint as director of its new physical therapy facility. Christine Harper has joined Everett Bone & Joint as a magnetic resonance imaging director and technician.

Rex Harmon of Index has been named medical device marketer of the year by the Medical Marketing Association. Harmon is vice president of global marketing and public relations manager for Swissray.

HOSPITALITY
Budd Gould, president of Anthony’s Restaurants, has been elected to the board of the National Restaurants Association, representing Washington state.

MANUFACTURING
Scott Helker is taking over as manager of Kimberly-Clark Corp.’s tissue and pulp mills on the Everett waterfront, which collectively employ about 900 people. He previously was manager of the pulp mill. Helker replaces Dave Faddis, who has been promoted to a vice presidency at the company’s Wisconsin headquarters, where he will be in charge of feminine- and adult-care products.

MOTORCYCLE
Dean Agee, Ron Lindquist and Doug Scoville, all technicians for the Cycle Barn in Lynnwood, have returned from advanced training through Harley-Davidson. Agee has attained the rank of expert, and Lindquist and Scoville have been designated masters of chassis.

PUBLIC SERVICE
Jim Miller has retired from the Snohomish County Fire District 1 board after 21 years off and on as a board member and volunteer firefighter. Miller began as a volunteer with District 11, which later merged with District 1, in 1970. He was first elected commissioner in 1971.

REAL ESTATE
Charlie Cruikshank has joined Coast Real Estate Services of Everett as a commercial leasing and sales agent. He has more than six years of experience in the commercial real estate market and specializes in retail, office, industrial and business opportunity properties in the Snohomish County market.

RETAIL/SALES
Dean Johnson is the new president of Professional Photographers of Washington. He will serve a one-year term. He owns Dean’s Professional Photography at 2504 Colby Ave. in Everett.

Tim Peppers is the new manager of the Top Food & Drug store in Snohomish. He most recently was manager of Top’s Everett store.

TRANSIT
Cam Walden of Marysville has joined Community Transit’s Two Million Mile Driver, driving that distance without an accident. She is among only five other CT drivers to reach that mark.
