John Sleeper Three teams made the cut last month when the Everett Public Facilities District selected them as finalists to design and build a proposed downtown special-events center. State law requires the PFD board to select at least three and no more than five teams as finalists. By August, the three are to make specific proposals and public presentations for the center, which has a price tag of $40 million to $50 million. The facility would be paid for with a credit against the state’s sales tax collected in Everett and with income from the center, city officials have said. A 23-member selection committee ranked the eight build-design teams that submitted qualifications last week. The committee sent its findings to the PFD board, which selected, in order:
The PFD board voted to pay each of the finalists not awarded the contract to design and build the project $100,000 to help offset costs in preparing their August proposals. That was one reason to limit the finalists to three, PFD board member Karen Shaw said. |
