Fluke enters new market with Wavetek

In January, Fluke Corp. launched its new Wavetek Meterman line of precision electronic test, measurement and calibration tools, the first ones marketed without the Fluke brand name.

The change comes several months after Fluke bought a major rival, the precision measurement division of Wavetek Wandel Goltermann in England, to enter a new market niche.

Over the past five years, the global market for digital multimeters has expanded to include professional engineers, technicians, electricians and do-it-yourselfers, an audience Fluke wants to reach.

“We found a growing need for a range of products that would attract users who didn’t need to live with their tools, using them constantly, but those who needed quality meters for occasional use. Also, we found there are hobbyists who may not want to spend the money for our top-of-the-line Fluke products but they’re interested in lower-cost precision tools, so the Wavetek acquisition gave us a family of products for that market,” Fluke President Jim Lico said.

The new product line of 60 meters and accessories includes electronic multimeters, electrical testers, clamp-on meters, component testers, specialty testers and bench meters, sold with a “no hassle” on-the-spot replacement warranty.

Units are priced from $20 to $200, compared to Fluke’s brand range of $75 to $450.

The Meterman units are available at thousands of industrial and electrical supply stores nationally.
