Flight
center’s biz plan approved by county
SCBJ
Staff
In May, the Snohomish
County Council unanimously approved the business plan for a National Flight
Interpretive Center at Paine Field and also selected Freiheit & Ho Architects
Inc. to design and Seattle-based URS Corp. to manage construction of the
$21.7 million project.
Early plans call
for a 52,000-square-foot museum that includes an education center, a regional
conference center and a restaurant. The project, to be built off Paine
Field Boulevard, will also include an 11,500-square-foot building that
will be used as the Boeing Tour Center.
Project Manager Bill
Lewallen said Bellevue-based Freiheit & Ho is making subconsultant Merritt+Pardini
the lead designer for the flight center.
If all goes as planned,
construction could start in late March 2004, Lewallen said. Several key
votes still must be taken before building starts, however. Next up, the
county and the Snohomish County Public Facilities District will have to
decide how much the district will contribute to the museum.
