People Watching

CONSTRUCTION
Tom Boysen has joined University Mechanical Contractors of Mukilteo as a project executive. David Johanson has joined the firm as manager of client services; Warren Rose is a new project engineer; and C.V. Nguyen is a newly hired estimator. Lise Van Deusen has been promoted to marketing coordinator.

EDUCATION
Dr. William Christopher was selected in May by the Cascadia Community College Board of Trustees to fill the position of president of the Bothell college. Under the terms of the agreement with the board, Christopher will earn $160,000 and will assume leadership of the college July 1. Christopher is currently president of the Rock Creek Campus of Portland Community College in Portland,Ore., where he has been since 1998. Prior to that time, he was the dean for instruction at Whatcom Community College in Bellingham. He also served on the science faculty at Olympic College in Bremerton and at Southern Nevada Community College in Las Vegas, Nev. Dr. Brinton Sprague will continue serving as interim president of the college until Christopher assumes the post.

The Edmonds Community College Foundation honored exceptional faculty and staff in May, with registrar Pat Huffman (now the college’s institutional researcher) receiving the Barbara Patterson Exempt Employee Award. Classified Excellence Awards went to Lenora Ebenal, program assistant for the Counseling and Resource Center, and Lorraine Necaise, instructional technician in the Developmental Education Division. Cheryl McLean received the Part-Time Faculty Award for teaching more than 20 years in multiple departments. Accounting instructor Donnie Kristof-Nelson received the Echelbarger-Sherman Exceptional Faculty Award. Nan Sarb, an instructor for the college’s allied health education classes, received the college’s Above and Beyond Award, recognizing community volunteerism, for her work helping others with breast cancer and for starting Community Yarn Creations.

FINANCIAL
Jason Shirley has joined The Bank of Washington as a commercial lender for the bank’s head office in Lynnwood. He formerly worked for One Source Funding. Also, Jeff Slater, who joined The Bank of Washington in 2004, has become a business banker.

Bob Leach and Mike Dutton of Wells Fargo were among 19 employees in Washington selected to attend an annual Private Client Services conference in Hawaii.

GOVERNMENT
Lisa Mandt has been hired as the new community relations representative for the Port of Everett’s public and media relations outreach efforts. Mandt has come to the port from The Snohomish County Tribune, where she covered the Everett and Mukilteo beat for the past two years.

HEALTH CARE
Robert Shumate has joined Integrated Rehabilitation Group as Mukilteo Physical Therapy’s new clinic manager. He has a master’s degree in physical therapy from Washington University in St. Louis and is an Athletic Trainer Certified. Also, Stacy Lazanis, a physical therapy assistant, has joined the Murphy’s Corner Physical Therapy group of Integrated Rehabilitation Group.

Kathy Nelson has joined Valley General Hospital as the marketing and strategic planning director.

David Gilbertson of Everett, a Mill Creek chiropractor, received a distinguished service award from the state Chiropractic Association for his many years of service to the organization.

Dr. John Zimmerman has joined the HealthForce Occupational Medicine Clinic in Everett.

INSURANCE
Rob Fowler has been named Allstate’s regional distribution leader for the Northwest. Based out of the company’s regional office in Bothell, Fowler will be responsible for regional sales management and sales support functions. He will supervise field distribution leaders throughout the Northwest region, including Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska and Hawaii. He has 20 years of experience in the insurance industry. Also, Melody Grondahl, Paul Gray, Julie Dow, Roberta Hubbell and Phil Tourtellot each recently received the Quality Service Agency Award from Allstate Insurance Co.

LAW
Vicki Oslund has become a partner with the law firm of Newton Kight LLP.

Several local candidates passed the winter Washington State Bar Examination administered Feb. 22 through 24 at Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue. REAL ESTATE
Real estate agent Julie Chisholm has joined the John L. Scott Lynnwood Center. She previously attended Century 21 Real Estate School.

RETAIL/SALES
Lawrence Lorimer, manager of the JCPenney store at Marysville Towne Center, and Ralph Rutledge, manager of the JCPenney store at Alderwood, have received the Chairman’s Award, the company’s highest honor for managerial excellence.
