Small-business breakfast — June 2
Alice Cunningham, co-owner of Olympic Hot Tub Co., will present “How to Keep Your Small Business Afloat in Rocky Waters” during a networking breakfast from 7 to 9 a.m. June 2 in the North Star Dining Room at North Seattle Community College. Cunningham, who knows the benefits that come with happy customers and strategic referral programs, will offer advice that will help attendees do the same for their growing business. Health-care conference — June 6
The Washington Policy Center will hold its annual Health Care Conference on June 6 at the Double Tree Hotel, 18740 International Blvd., in SeaTac. The half-day conference will include keynote speaker Roy Ramthun, the top health-care official in the White House on the president’s new health-care plan. Panels scheduled include consumer-driven health care; prescription drugs, including evidence-based medicine and the latest innovations in medicine; and health information technology. The lunch will include a Policymakers Health-care Reform Panel featuring legislators from both parties and health-care officials from the Governor’s Office discussing their health-care reform proposals and a look ahead to the 2007 legislative session. Cost to attend is $55 for those attending the entire conference, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and $25 for those attending breakfast only, from 7:30 to 9 a.m. (includes keynote speaker). Online forum on buying, selling
a business — June 8

Business For Sale Online Academy will hold an open-forum Q&A session regarding topics related to buying and selling a business from 6 to 7 p.m. June 8. The free forum will take place online at www.USABizMart.com/education and will be taught by Peter Siegel, a U.S. Small Business Administration SCORE counselor specializing in helping those buying and selling small to medium-size businesses. This webinar course is designed for small-business owners, potential business buyers, small-business advisers, business brokers and agents. “Good Morning,
Snohomish County!” — June 9

“Good Morning, Snohomish County!” will be held from 7:15 to 9 a.m. June 9 at the Holiday Inn, 3105 Pine St., in Everett. Attendees to the breakfast networking event are asked to bring at least 50 of their business cards. Display tables are available for marketing materials, and businesses also can bring a door prize to promote themselves. Cost to attend is $18 for members of Snohomish County chambers of commerce paying on or before June 6 and $23 for members paying after June 6. Cost for a display table is $40, and cost of sponsorship is $500. Brand strategies workshop — June 9
A workshop titled “Standing Out in the Crowd: Successful Branding Strategies” is set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 9 at the Columbia Tower Club, 701 Fifth Ave., in Seattle. Presented by brandUNITY, the workshop will teach attendees how to attract targeted markets with greater precision; create more powerful, multi-channel campaigns; and increase brand impact with cross-channel techniques. There will be small group breakout sessions and networking, with lunch included and parking validated. Cost to attend the workshop is $225. Resume-writing workshops

Free resume-writing workshops are being offered by Everett Community College weekly through June. Regina Pontow, author of more than 15,000 resumes and “Proven Resumes: Strategies That Have Increased Salaries” and the leader of hundreds of such workshops, will talk about resumes and cover letters. Sessions are limited to 30 people per workshop. The Washington Policy Center will officially kick off its new research center, the Center for Small Business and Entrepreneurship, from noon to 1:30 p.m. June 22 at the Red Lion Hotel in downtown Seattle. Buck, chief executive of Buck Knives, will discuss his decision to move his business from California to Idaho rather than Washington and the state business regulations that impacted his decision. “Negotiating for Success”
— June 22 and 23

Dr. Anne Cummings, academic director for the Women in Leadership Executive Program of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business, will present “Negotiating for Success” in Everett on June 22 and 23. The two-day program takes an active approach to learning and improving participants’ negotiating skills, with participants engaging in practice simulation sessions in which they will plan, execute and receive feedback on their growing negotiation skills. Fifteen continuing education units will be issued to each participant completing the program. Breakfast and lunch will be provided each day. Cost to attend the course if payment is received before June 1 is $825, with a nonprofit rate of $475. If payment is received after June 1, the cost is $875 standard, with a nonprofit rate of $525.
