BIOTECH
Paul Clark, chairman and chief executive officer of Bothell’s ICOS Corp., has been appointed to the board of directors of Agilent Technologies, a worldwide leader in communications, electronics, life sciences and chemical analysis and measurement. Prior to joining ICOS, Clark held executive positions with Abbott Labs, Marion Laboratories and Sandoz Pharmaceuticals.

Pamela Trail, a pharmaceutical industry veteran with 20 years of research and development experience, has joined Seattle Genetics of Bothell as its chief scientific officer. She earned her doctorate in immunology and virology from the University of Connecticut.

ENGINEERING & ENVIRONMENTAL
Leslie Jonsson, a mechanical engineer at CDi Engineers, received a BetterBricks award for demonstrating excellence in a variety of ways that contribute to high performance buildings. BetterBricks is a nonprofit group supported by electric utilities.

Jamie Son recently joined the transportation design team at Perteet Inc. as a design engineer. She specializes in roadway and interstate design and has worked on projects throughout the country, including Florida, Alaska, Idaho and Washington state, including the Lynnwood HOV direct access project. Also, Tresia Bass has joined Perteet as a project manager for transportation planning projects. She has particular expertise in corridor studies and traffic simulation models. She also has experience with environmental impact studies and traffic impact studies. Bass has worked on the SR 520 bridge replacement project, the Translake study and the I-5 pavement reconstruction project. She also determined the impacts and mitigation needed for a modified I-5 interchange at 116th Street in Marysville.

Josh Wittmier and Jennifer Yoshimura have joined Sparling as electrical designers. Both graduated in electrical engineering from Seattle Pacific University. He interned with Fluke Corp., and her current projects include Lynnwood High School.

FINANCIAL
Five officers recently received promotions at Frontier Bank: Mary Jobe to senior vice president, real estate division; Tony Miller to loan officer, main office; Serena Johnson, loan support officer, main office; Dalene Bley to senior vice president, product development; and Scott Nolan, vice president, compliance manager. Jobe has more than 26 years of experience in banking and has been with Frontier Bank for 10 years. Miller has been in banking for six years and five of those have been with Frontier. Johnson has been with Frontier for five years. Bley has been in banking for 22 years, with four years at Frontier. Nolan, who recently joined Frontier, has been in banking for 25 years and previously was employed by Republic Bank of Chicago.

Cliff Sullam and Robin Rosa have been named senior vice presidents, and Wendy Whitcomb has been named vice president at EvergreenBank. Sullam has worked with EvergreenBank for more than two years as a relationship manager in commercial lending and has more than 22 years of banking experience. He previously worked at Pacific Northwest Bank. Rosa joined EvergreenBank more than three years ago as a relationship manager in commercial lending. She has 15 years of banking experience and is a member of the South Snohomish County Chamber of Commerce, Everett Area Chamber of Commerce and Lynnwood Rotary. Whitcomb has worked with EvergreenBank for more than 20 years and is the bank’s loan services manager.

Everett Allstate Insurance agent Melissa Morley recently earned the Personal Financial Representative title after passing the NASD Series 6 and Series 63 securities license exams. She now will be able to offer customers a variety of financial products in addition to auto, homeowner and traditional life insurance products.

FOOD SERVICES
Marysville resident Angie Miller, a food service field marketing specialist for Haggen Food & Pharmacy stores, recently graduated from an intensive, 14-week food industry management program at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Miller previously earned a bachelor’s degree in restaurant management from Indiana State University.

The Washington Restaurant Association has hired Jackie Huerta as the north Washington area coordinator. She is responsible for membership sales and member relations, including government affairs assistance, within San Juan, Island, Snohomish, Skagit and Whatcom counties. A former wedding planner and ordained minister, Huerta has more than 20 years of experience in marketing and restaurant management.

GOVERNMENT
City of Edmonds Economic Development Director Jennifer Gerend has been awarded a professional fellowship to work with planners and economic development officials in Germany for one year. She is one of 10 recipients from the United States to receive the German Chancellor Scholarship in 2006-2007 from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. She will leave her post at the city in June.

Deanna Dawson has been appointed Snohomish County executive director, replacing Susan Neely, an appointee of former County Executive Bob Drewel, who assisted in the transition between administrations. Dawson will oversee issues that include law and justice, human services and corrections. She has extensive experience in the legal system as a domestic violence prosecutor, a judge pro-tem for more than seven years and a public defender. In her second term on the Edmonds City Council, Dawson currently serves as council president.

HEALTH CARE
Everett dentist Dr. Steven Crawford attended the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry’s 22nd annual Scientific Session in San Diego, Calif., in May. The AACD is the world’s largest international dental organization dedicated to advancing excellence in cosmetic dentistry, of which Crawford is an active member.

Dr. Brad Gerrish of Snohomish is the recipient of the 2006 Family Physician of the Year Award given by the Washington Academy of Family Physicians. Gerrish practices at the Snohomish Family Medical Center, which he helped found. He also is the medical director for the Delta Rehabilitation Center, which is dedicated to comprehensive care of brain trauma patients. A graduate of Dartmouth College and the University of Washington School of Medicine, Gerrish has served as a team physician at Snohomish High School, participated in many community service projects and has taught overseas numerous times during his 35-year career.

INSURANCE
Janine Parris has been promoted to senior corporate relations manager of Allstate Insurance Co.’s northwest region, which is headquartered in Bothell. Parris has worked for Allstate for six years. She has served as the northwest region’s corporate relations manager since November 2004. Prior to moving to the Northwest, Parris served as a senior communication consultant in Allstate’s southeast regional office.

Stuart Parsons, who operates an Allstate Insurance Agency in Marysville, and Bruce Pleasant, whose agency is in Lynnwood, recently earned the Quality Service Agency customer service award from the Allstate Insurance Co.

NONPROFITS
Donna Konicki is the new executive director for Bridgeways. She formerly was the director of finance and administration for the nonprofit organization, which serves adults in Snohomish County with chronic mental illness. Robert Bjorklund is Bridgeways’ new clinical director. With extensive clinical, teaching, research and training experience in adult mental health, Bjorklund recently helped to lead Bridgeways to a successful 97 percent passing score on a combined Washington State Mental Health Division and North Sound Regional Support Network audit. Also, Sheldon (Shelly) Kleine has accepted a new position as a member of Bridgeways’ board of directors and chair of the clinical services committee. Kleine is a state-licensed psychologist and has practiced as a clinical psychologist for more than 25 years.

Chuck Morrison, executive director of the Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross, was honored during the organization’s 125th anniversary gala celebration in Washington, D.C., in May for his exceptional leadership and effective delivery of Red Cross programs and services. Morrison has led the local chapter since 2003. He previously had served as executive director of the Everett Community College Foundation.

REAL ESTATE
Josh Jansen has joined Coast Real Estate Services of Everett as an associate broker specializing in sales of multi-family properties.

Tracey Schneider of Lake Stevens and Lisa McDaniels of Snohomish have been hired as home mortgage specialists at the Everett office of National City Mortgage.

Sales associates Guy Mahan, Dorne Koontz, Don Kyllonen, Michael Baker and Olivia Bernardez have joined Preview Properties Inc.’s Bothell office. Sales associate Veronica Stordahl has joined Preview’s Marysville office, and sales associates Karen Monroe and Ferman Romero have joined the company’s Stanwood office.

Real estate agents Dusty Boucher, Debi Mercer, Cathy Hillegas and Anita Kauzlarich have joined RE/MAX Metro Properties-Monroe. Boucher and Mercer formerly were with All Real Estate, and Hillegas formerly was with Countrywide Home Loans.

Chris Strow is the new public affairs director for the Snohomish County Camano Association of Realtors. Strow, currently a state representative from the 10th District, has worked in communications roles for both former U.S. Rep. Jack Metcalf of Whidbey Island and U.S. Rep. Denny Rehberg of Montana. Additionally, he has worked as vice president of government and public affairs of a national trade association and as legislative political director of the Republican National Committee.

Sales associate Yelena Ruzhin has joined Windermere Real Estate/GH LLC in Mukilteo. Ruzhin formerly was a dental assistant with Dental Professions in Seattle. She is fluent in Russian and Ukrainian and also is a licensed notary public.

Sales associate Travis Roesler has joined Windermere Real Estate/North Inc. in Lynnwood. Roesler formerly was a project manager with Designs Northwest in Mukilteo.

SERVICE GROUPS
Deanna Dawson (also listed under GOVERNMENT), council president and councilwoman, Position 2, for the city of Edmonds, recently was awarded the Making a Difference for Women Award by Soroptimist International of Sno-King. Dawson was instrumental in the development of the South Snohomish County Domestic Violence Task Force, and she continues to serve as a charter member of this organization. She also is the president of the Washington Women Lawyers of Snohomish County, where she promotes pro-bono work for victims of domestic violence.

TELECOM
Verizon Communications has appointed David Valdez as senior vice president for Verizon West. He will be responsible for the company’s regulatory and legislative initiatives in Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. In addition, Valdez will oversee Verizon’s community relations and grants from the Verizon Foundation, the company’s philanthropic arm, to nonprofit organizations in the region. Based in Everett, Valdez has been vice president for public policy and external affairs for the Northwest for the past two years. Previously, he was the company’s chief privacy officer.

UTILITIES
Dana Toulson is the new assistant general manager of power and transmission services at the Snohomish County Public Utility District.
