United Way’s Community Breakfast
set for June 4

United Way of Snohomish County will recognize local companies and individuals who have shown support for United Way and the community at the Spirit of Snohomish County Community Breakfast from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. June 4 at the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel, 3105 Pine St., in Everett.

Alan Mulally, CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplane Group, will be the keynote speaker and will focus on community investment.

AquaSox program benefits
nonprofit groups

The Everett AquaSox are pitching a new program called Corporate Care. With the help of local businesses, the Mariners’ minor-league team will donate AquaSox merchandise and game tickets to local nonprofit organizations. EDC helps create 295 jobs
during first quarter

The Snohomish County Economic Development Council announced at its quarterly meeting that it helped create about 295 jobs during the first three months of 2001.

That puts the agency at close to 50 percent of its job-creation target for the year, council President Reid Shockey said.

The council is in the first year of a five-year, $3.5 million plan to create 4,000 new family-wage jobs in Snohomish County.

As part of the plan, the council during the quarter hired a person to coordinate workplace training programs for companies, as well as a marketing director.

Arlington ranch earns
national recognition

Holden Angus Ranch of Arlington has been recognized by the American Angus Association for having five registered cows in the association’s annual Pathfinder Report. Only 1,950 of the association’s 35,000 members are represented in the report that identifies superior Angus cows.

Northwest Gears expands,
undergoes remodel

Allied Construction Associates Inc. of Everett recently completed a $200,000 construction project for Northwest Gears Inc.’s Paine Field location.

The project included placement of heat-treating equipment, which required penetrating the roof; expansion of NGI’s manufacturing area; and a remodel of the office area essentially “into a laboratory,” said Beth Shahan, Office Administrator at Allied.

Dwayne Lane’s to build
new Chevrolet dealership

Tom Lane, Chief Executive Officer of Dwayne Lane’s Family of Auto Centers, said last month that plans are under way for a new Chevrolet store at 21117 59th St. NE in Arlington. When it opens in the fall, it will triple the capacity of the current location in downtown Arlington.

Dwayne Lane’s Family of Auto Centers has been in business since 1953 and currently owns three dealerships in Snohomish County representing Chevrolet, Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep products.

on employment discrimination

HCI Steel Building Systems
part of fire-hall project

HCI Steel Building Systems of Arlington and Bailey-Berg General Contractors of Olympia recently worked together on an 8,700-square-foot fire hall for the town of Brinnon, located on the Hood Canal.

HCI manufactured the building at its facilities, with on-site construction beginning in August. Bailey-Berg completed the project in December, and the local Fire Department is busy working on the landscaping, said Ron Kowalski of HCI.

The project cost about $935,000, Kowalski said.

Retirement community
opens in Edmonds

Edmonds Landing, a retirement community for both independent and assisted living, opened last month in downtown Edmonds.

Located at Second Avenue and Dayton, the 83-unit complex includes studios and one-bedroom apartments.
