Herald acquiring assets of Everett Business Journal

Effective this month, the Herald, publisher of the Snohomish County Business Journal, will complete its purchase of certain assets related to the Everett Business Journal, which has decided to close its doors after a six-year run.

If your business is located outside Everett, you may not have been aware of this monthly publication, whose distribution and news coverage were limited to Snohomish County’s largest city.

Both business journals began publishing in the spring of 1998, the Snohomish County Business Journal owned by the Herald, and the Everett Business Journal owned by an Eastern Washington publisher who also operated the Wenatchee Business Journal and Bellingham Business Journal.

In 2001, all three of those business journals were sold to Sun News Inc., owner of the Marysville Globe, Arlington Times and a group of Idaho/Utah weekly newspapers. Today, the Wenatchee and Bellingham business journals continue. The Everett Business Journal, however, will cease operation after its May issue.

Under terms of the agreement, the Herald will purchase the rights to the Everett Business Journal’s name; its mailing, circulation and advertiser lists; and related items. We will honor the contracts those advertisers have signed with the former journal so they will be able to take advantage of the Snohomish County Business Journal’s larger, countywide circulation of nearly 16,000.

Many of you within the Everett area have been receiving both our journal and the former Everett Business Journal, since both are direct-mailed free to businesses within the county. If so, you’ll be accustomed to our countywide news coverage.
