Exporting resource seminar — May 3
The Procurement Technical Assistance Center will co-host an exporting resource and networking seminar from 3 to 5 p.m. May 3 at the Everett Events Center. The event is free, but space is limited to 50 people. To register, call the center at 425-743-4567 or send e-mail to lhenthorn@snoedc.org.

Village Theatre benefit auction — May 3
Village Theatre will hold its fourth annual auction and gala, A Grand Night for Singing, beginning at 5:30 p.m. May 3 at the Everett Performing Arts Center. Each year, the auction and gala raises vital funds in support of Village Theatre’s Mainstage, Village Originals and Youth Education programs. Attendees to the event will enjoy gourmet cuisine, fine wines and desserts. The evening includes silent and live auctions and a glittering musical preview of Village Theatre’s 2005-06 season. Tickets are $50 per person and can be purchased by calling Village Theatre’s box office at 425-257-8600.

South-county economic development
luncheon — May 4

The South Snohomish County Chamber of Commerce holds its third luncheon in a three-part series on economic development in south Snohomish County from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 4. The luncheon, which will focus on projects in the city of Lynnwood, will include speakers such as David Kleitsch, director of economic development for the city; Grant Dull, executive director for the Lynnwood Public Facilities District; and Jerry Alder, general director of Alderwood. Marketing presentation — May 4
The Seattle Chapter of the Direct Marketing Association will present “Targeting Your Message: Be Both Narrow and Broad” during a dinner meeting May 4. Speaker Chas Edwards, vice president of sales and marketing at CNET Networks, will discuss issues related to working on a micro- and macro-marketing level. Through case studies, Edwards will explore the pitfalls of micro-targeting and the challenges marketers face in an era dominated by tracking and accountability. The event is open to anyone and will be held at McCormick & Schmick’s Harborside Restaurant, 1200 Westlake Ave. N., Seattle. The evening begins with networking at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:15 p.m. and the program at 7 p.m. The cost is $35 for DMA members and $45 for nonmembers. Entrepreneurial
training breakfast — May 5

The Northwest Women’s Business Center will hold a First Friday Networking Breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. May 5 at the Edmonds Conference Center, 201 Fourth Ave. N., in Edmonds. The program will include the quarterly Women’s Network for Entrepreneurial Training (WNET) program titled “Selling to the Government.” Attendees will learn how to find government contracting opportunities and what resources are available to them. Business Expo and Job Fair — May 5
A free Business Expo and Job Fair for business-to-business marketing and networking May 5 at the Hawthorn Inn & Suites at Smokey Point in Arlington also is open to the general public. Co-sponsored by the Arlington, Smokey Point and Greater Marysville Tulalip chambers of commerce; the cities of Arlington and Marysville; and more than 45 area businesses, the event runs from 1 to 7 p.m. A chamber “business after hours” program with a no-host bar will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m.

Medic One Foundation auction — May 6
The Medic One Foundation, which works to provide emergency medical equipment for paramedics and firefighters throughout King and south Snohomish counties, will hold its sixth annual Lifesaver Luncheon & Silent Auction from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 6 at the Washington State Convention & Trade Center. Tax workshop for businesses — May 11
The Everett office of the state Department of Revenue will hold a free New Business Outreach workshop from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. May 11 to help new and small businesses understand how to report their state taxes. The event will be held at the Everett Public Library, 2707, Hoyt Ave., in Everett. WDC business conference — May 12
Noted business management “guru,” author and theorist Tom Peters will visit Snohomish County on May 12, presenting strategies from his new book, “Re-Imagine! Business Excellence in a Disruptive Age,” at the newly opened Lynnwood Convention Center. Hundreds of Puget Sound business and community leaders are expected to attend the event, which will begin with breakfast at 7 a.m., followed by presentations from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Snohomish County Workforce Development Council, the program will include Washington Gov. Estate-planning seminar — May 18
A free, no-obligation seminar on the basics of estate planning will be presented from 6 to 8 p.m. May 18 at United Way of Snohomish County, 917 134th St. SW, Everett. Professional advisers including an attorney, certified public accountant, financial planner and trust officer will cover such subjects as how to prepare for writing a will, the advantages of living trusts and how to minimize estate taxes. Technology Alliance luncheon — May 26
The Technology Alliance will hold its annual State of Technology Luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 26 at the Westin Hotel in Seattle. The event will feature a keynote address by Eric Schmidt, chief executive officer of Google Inc. The alliance also will announce the findings of its latest study benchmarking Washington’s performance against that of its peer states in education, research and entrepreneurship, and the Alliance of Angels, an alliance program, will announce the winner of its 2005 Startup of the Year Award. Biz Bash 2005 — June 15

A kick-off reception starts at 4:30 p.m., followed by the 5 to 7 p.m. program.
