High-tech company moves to Stanwood-Camano area

Index Sensors & Controls, formerly of Redmond, has moved into the Stanwood-Camano Village Business Center’s first high-tech office building, built by general contractor BFC Frontier of Lynnwood.

The mid-September move was a major step for the 25-year-old company, a manufacturer of sensing equipment and electronic control systems.

Citing “traffic congestion, high leasing rates and quality-of-life issues” as reasons for the move, Index Sensors President Steve Goldberg said he is convinced his company and its employees will be better off in northern Snohomish County.

The 28,700-square-foot facility, constructed with concrete tilt-up panels, a wood roof and exterior storefront glazing, was designed by CDA Architects of Seattle and civil-engineered by Harmsen & Associates of Monroe. This represents the fourth project in The Village that the team of BFC Frontier, CDA & Harmsen has completed for Lindstrom Development Group of Stanwood.

The building, at 265th Street NW and 72nd Avenue NW in Stanwood, already is wholly-occupied by Index Sensors & Controls.

“The entire Index project, from conception to completion, was accomplished in only nine months,” said Sol Baron, President of Lindstrom Development. “BFC Frontier did a fantastic job getting the project finished on time with the quality we expected.”

Index Sensors & Controls employs 94 people, making it the Stanwood-Camano area’s second-largest employer, behind Twin City Foods.

The Business Center is in Stanwood-Camano Village, home to more than 50 retail and professional businesses, including restaurants, medical/dental offices, an athletic club and a 60,000-square-foot Haggens grocery store.

Index Sensors won’t be the last high-tech business at the Village. Baron recently retained Colliers to lease the next three office/high-tech buildings planned for the Business Center.

“When (all four building are) completed, the Village will have in excess of 200,000 square feet of office/high-tech space ... with Verizon SmartCenter features, providing high-speed connectivity for voice, data and video applications,” Baron said.
