LePointé relocates, expands to full-day spa

For Barbara Mounsey, upgrading her business, LePointé Spa, was “a natural progression.”

“If I was going to change locations, I wanted to do a full-day spa,” said Mounsey, who recently moved LePointé from 4127 172nd St. NE in Arlington to the new Hawthorn Inn & Suites complex at Smokey Point.

Previously offering “mostly hair and pedicure” services, LePointé’s services now include everything from aromatherapy facials and massages to electrolysis, ear piercings, hydrotherapy and hair care — all offered in about 2,400 square feet of space dedicated to relaxation.

“There’s a certain atmosphere that must be maintained at all times,” said Bryan Mounsey, LePointé Spa’s manager and Barbara’s son.

The spa’s tranquil environment begins in the lobby, where a water sculpture gurgles a welcome. It continues into the relaxation room, where stained-glass art by Barbara’s husband, David, is part of the decor and soothing spa music plays in the background. Then it’s on to one of the massage rooms, with its fireplace and dim lighting. Or maybe the hair salon, which looks out onto a miniature waterfall cascading into a pond surrounded by lush greenery.

While the atmosphere is important, environment alone cannot deliver on the results LePointé Spa promises. To this end, the Mounseys have employed high-tech gadgetry and licensed specialists to style hair, cleanse the face and knead away tension.

In the manicure/pedicure room, for instance, are black leather chairs that have spa-jet baths for the feet, and vibrating/heating options.

A cyber-imaging computer program allows clients to see how hairstyles look on them before making the crucial decision.

It’s a “hairstyle without the risk,” Bryan Mounsey said.

Open seven days a week, LePointé Spa has 12 people on staff, including licensed massage therapists, estheticians and cosmetologists, and the spa eventually will employ about 40 to keep the place running smoothly, Barbara Mounsey said.

“We’re busy,” she said. “I come in at 9 in the morning, and I’m lucky to get out of here at 9 at night.”

And that’s without prominent signage — which is expected to arrive by early this month — to attract potential customers, Barbara Mounsey said.

Some of the customers have seen LePointé Spa’s phone number and new location in the yellow pages of the phone book, published almost 10 months before the spa relocated.

“I knew last year that I needed it in there,” Barbara Mounsey said. “It was worth paying for the extra to get it in there.”

A good portion of LePointé Spa’s clientele have made the mile-or-so move with the spa, she said. Plus, the spa also offers packages through the hotel.

The spa’s additional services have attracted “all generations,” Barbara Mounsey said, not only baby boomers, who used to make up a large part of her customer base.

“So now, we want to rejuvenate everyone,” she said.
