Lecture on Tulalips’
economic activity — Nov. 12

Edmonds Community College’s fall Brown Bag Lecture Series presents “Economic Development and the Tulalip Tribes” from noon to 1 p.m. Nov. 12 in the Triton Union Building 202 on the college campus, 20000 68th Ave. W., Lynnwood.

The free presentation will feature John McCoy, director of governmental affairs for the Tulalip Tribes and state representative for the 38th Legislative District, who will talk about economic diversification and the use of technology on the Tulalip reservation.

YMCA fund-raising gala — Nov. 15
The YMCA of Snohomish County is holding its first-ever Minority Achievers Program Black Tie Gala on Nov. 15 in the ballroom of the Everett Events Center’s Conference Center.

The theme for the dinner-and-dance event is “An Evening of Pure Elegance,” and funds raised from the event will go toward the YMCA’s Minority Achievers Program, which is aimed at helping minority students set academic goals in pursuit of higher education. The program partners minority students with adult mentors and emphasizes career and higher-education funding opportunities.

Tickets for the gala, which begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 1 a.m., cost $80 per person. For more information, call J.J. Frank at 360-653-9622, Ext. 111.

Self-care seminar — Nov. 21
Merrill Gardens at Stanwood will hold a presentation on “Extreme Self Care for Our Personal and Professional Lives” from noon to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 21 at the retirement community, 7212 265th St. NW, Stanwood.

Kathryn Snyder, a registered nurse and life engineering coach, will be the featured speaker, discussing an array of topics, including setting healthy boundaries, learning to take healthy risks and exploring new possibilities. A light lunch will be served.
