ACCOUNTING
Travis Smith has been promoted to partnership in the Everett office of Moss Adams LLP. Other promotions to partnership are Dan Gaffney and Aaron Faulk.

Certified public accountant Jenise Kazen has been promoted to manager, and certified public accountant Jessica Couture has been promoted to senior accountant at Hascal, Sjoholm & Co. PS Certified Public Accountants. Kazen has been with the firm since 1999, and Couture has been with the firm since 2003.

Certified public accountant Christina Olson has been promoted to manager at Lynnwood-based Vine Dahlen & Co. PLLC. Also, Katie Walker has joined Vine Dahlen & Co. as a staff accountant.

CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE
Snohomish County Council Chair Gary Nelson has been named 2005 recipient of the South Snohomish County Chamber’s John M. Fluke Sr. Community Service Award.

Three new board members have been named to fill Everett Area Chamber of Commerce board positions for 2006 and beyond: Mike Mustell, Stadium Flowers; Charlie Chaffin, Cascade Bank; and Mark Lewinski, Kirtley-Cole Associates. Board members serve from October to September for three-year terms. Volunteer board members are asked to attend meetings and functions throughout their tenure.

DESIGN/PRINTING
John Peeters is joining Penway Printing & Design, a commercial printing and graphic design company in Arlington. He will be managing and marketing the 20-year family-owned business. Peeters graduated from Western Washington University in 2004 with degrees in accounting, economics, business and marketing.

EDUCATION
James Shipman has been appointed to Everett Community College’s Board of Trustees.

Dick Van Hollebeke of Edmonds has been appointed by Gov. Christine Gregoire to the Edmonds Community College Board of Trustees. Van Hollebeke replaces Ronald Howell, president of Washington Research Foundation, who completed a five-year term Sept. 30. Van Hollebeke is the owner of Van Hollebeke Insurance and Financial Services. He is a former member of the Edmonds City Council and a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Professionals.

ENGINEERING & ENVIRONMENTAL
Ted Vega has joined University Mechanical Contractors Inc. as a detailer. Also, Kevin Coffman has been named project engineer; Mark Rosas, detailer; Steve Bueler, design engineer; James Drinkwater, contract administrator; Owen Welling, project engineer; Brandon Kappus, HVAC detailer; Mitch Droz, project engineer; Bob Hollowed, operations manager; and Linda Barnhart, executive assistant.

Linda Goetz has joined Landau Associates’ Edmonds office as a senior archaeologist/cultural resource specialist, and Jill Raben has joined the office as project coordinator manager. Also, Julie Bohm has been promoted to marketing manager. Goetz has more than 14 years of experience in assessing project impacts on historical and cultural resources. She is currently president of the Association for Washington Archaeology and has served as a board or committee member with other statewide archaeological associations throughout the Northwest. Raben has nearly 10 years of experience as a technical editor, production coordinator and staff writer.

FINANCIAL
Carol Nelson, president and chief executive of Cascade Financial Corp., was named to the ninth position in the U.S. Banker Magazine’s list of “25 Most Powerful Women in Banking” in its third annual ranking, which appeared in the October issue of the magazine. “I am honored to be included among this distinguished group of women, and delighted that our work at Cascade Financial has garnered national and industry recognition,” Nelson said. In creating the list, U.S. Banker Magazine considered more than 5,000 senior banking officials who lead a division, group or subsidiary owned by a bank holding company.

Michael Hall recently was hired as vice president and commercial banking relationship officer for Horizon Bank. Hall will be located at the Snohomish Commercial Center in Everett, where he will work directly with commercial banking clients. Hall has more than 30 years of experience in banking.

Barbara Scharping has been promoted to vice president of system operations at Frontier Bank.

Geoff Owen has been appointed vice president/loan officer at Prime Pacific Bank in Lynnwood.

Michelle Worden of Monroe has been named executive vice president at EvergreenBank. She has been with the Seattle-based bank for 14 years. In August, she graduated from Pacific Coast Banking School.

FITNESS
Cyndi Correnti, a longtime Edmonds business owner, has joined the Edmonds Curves fitness club as its manager.

GOVERNMENT
Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon, Mukilteo Mayor Don Doran and Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson recently announced the members for the Mediated Role Determination Review panel, which is tasked with making recommendations on the current and future role of the Snohomish County Airport. The panel includes: co-chairs Doran and Stephanson; Deanna Dawson, city councilmember, Edmonds; Tom Gaffney, business consultant, retired partner, Moss Adams; Tom Hoban, CEO, Coast Real Estate Services; Lori Kaiser, city councilmember, Mukilteo; Kevin Laverty, Mukilteo School Board, NW media relations, Verizon; A.J. Chase, Arlington Airport Commission; Mark Wolken, president and CEO, Mark Wolken and Associates; Michelle Robles, city councilmember, Mountlake Terrace; John Shaw, president and CEO, Stuchell Enterprises; and Hugh Townsend, president and CEO, Reid Middleton Inc.

HEALTH CARE
Carmen Diersen has been appointed to the board of directors of SonoSite Inc.

Dr. Brian Hallgarth of The Everett Clinic recently passed his re-certification examination with the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, scoring in the 98th percentile.

LAW
Aaron Shields and Karen Moore have become shareholders of Brewe Layman.

MEDIA
Megan Halliburton has joined the business office at The Herald.

REAL ESTATE
Susie Detmer has joined Cushman & Wakefield of Washington Inc. as senior director. Also, Stacy Reid has been named retail associate.

Toni Griffin and Anne Koh have joined Windermere Real Estate’s Mill Creek office as sales associates. Griffin had been a purchasing manager with Aztech Electric Inc. for six years. Griffin also has three years of real estate experience with Sasco Inc. Koh previously was an office manager with the Windermere Boise-Richard B. Smith office in Boise.

Samantha Shelton has joined Legacy Escrow Service Inc. as a senior escrow closer. She has several years of experience in the industry and most recently was a closer with Platinum Escrow.

SPORTS
Dan Lewis has stepped down as general manager for the Everett AquaSox. Lewis, who worked for the ball club for eight years, cited the need to be closer to his family as the main reason for his decision. The AquaSox’s director of corporate sales, Brian Sloan, has been named the new general manager. Sloan is entering his 11th year with the club.
