$10,000 Christmas House, a nonprofit charity that was formed in 1981, provided Christmas joy to 7,456 children and more than 2,655 low-income families throughout Snohomish County last year. Thanks to an agreement with the North Everett Boys & Girls Club, Christmas House once again has a holiday home at 231612th St. in Everett. Christmas House will open its doors Dec. 2 and serve the public over 14 dates through Dec. 20. giant The attempt will be submitted to Guinness in hopes of making its Guinness Book of Records, while proceeds for pieces of the cinnamon roll as well as raffle tickets sold during the Oct. 15 baking event will benefit Hopelink. Shop owners Wayne and Anita Warren said they chose to help the nonprofit organization because some of their employees have benefited from its services in the past and recommended Hopelink as a worthy charity for the event. $91,900 Outreach and opportunity grants are one-time grants for grass-roots projects directed toward under-represented or diverse groups of people. United Way awarded outreach and opportunity grants to the following groups/projects: Lake Stevens Senior Center, Take the Next Step, Positive Women’s Network, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Workforce Development Center in Mukilteo, Soviet Union Refugee Association in Bothell, Snohomish Seniors, Clothes for Kids in Lynnwood and Assistance League of Everett. Also, Challenge Days, National Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome in Washington state, Monroe Gospel Women’s Mission, Delta Community Baptist Church, Marysville Community Coalition, Snohomish Drug & Alcohol Committee, Snohomish County Youth Meth Action Team and Christ the Rock Fellowship. The organization’s registered nurses, “the organ ladies,” travel to schools across Washington state to teach substance-abuse prevention using human organs. In addition to the organs, the nurses use interactive activities, sharing of life experiences, humor and a hands-on activity at the end of each presentation. The Seattle-based Gilmore Research Group has been hired to do the study. Choice & Consequence is dependent upon grants and donations to meet the goal of providing services to schools at a reduced price or free of charge. The group teaches at conferences, corporations, health fairs and other adult venues for a fee to help support the schools.
