Paying
tribute
to nonprofit groups
and their leaders
Thanks
to human nature, there is a caring streak in all of us, a sensitivity
to other human beings and their plights that inspires us to be donors,
supporters and volunteers for a wide variety of charitable agencies.
Without all of that
support, life would be more difficult, or even impossible, for millions
of people, for lack of food, shelter or advances in medical research.
But that caring streak
is much deeper and broader in many people, particularly those who devote
their professional lives to founding, managing and growing nonprofit organizations
that benefit significant segments of our society.
Among those who come
to mind are people like Tom Robinson, president and CEO of Volunteers
of America of Western Washington, and Carl Zapora, president and CEO of
United Way of Snohomish County, people who have dedicated their lives
to helping others.
The way they live
out their compassionate roles also is reflected in hundreds of agency
employees at all levels, in a multitude of human service agencies in Snohomish
County.
It’s to honor nonprofit
agencies, their leaders, staffs, donors and supporters that we publish
our second issue of Reaching Out as our cover story in this November issue.
We hope it will be both a tribute to those who serve in the nonprofit
field and an encouragement to others to join them — or at least support
them — for all the good that they do for so many of our neighbors in our
communities.
