There could be a
slight increase in the number of Snohomish County companies hiring new
workers through the end of the year, a recent survey says.
However, the survey
also found that 63 percent of companies plan to stand pat with their current
employment levels, and that is “by far the dominant player here,” said
Donna Thompson, a state labor market analyst based in Everett.
The most recent survey
by Manpower Inc., the temporary services agency, found that 20 percent
of businesses in the Everett/Lynnwood area will add employees during October,
November and December, while 17 percent of them will cut back.
That represents a
change from Manpower’s third-quarter survey, when 17 percent planned to
add workers while 10 percent cut them. A year ago, 13 percent of local
companies added workers and 10 percent cut them, Manpower said.
Job opportunities
are most likely in services, wholesale/ retail trade and finance/insurance/real
estate, Manpower reported.
