New sleep center
expected to open this fall

Following a remodel, the North Puget Sound Center for Sleep Disorders is expected to open this fall in the former Marina Village Inn, near the waterfront, in Everett.

A joint venture by The Everett Clinic and Western Washington Medical Group, the sleep center will have 10 to 12 beds to meet the growing need for diagnosis of sleep disorders, The Everett Clinic said.

“Currently, there is a wait of two months to have a sleep study conducted locally,” said Mark Mantei, chief operating officer of The Everett Clinic. “We hope to address the growing demand for sleep services with this new sleep center. Converting an existing hotel into a sleep study center is a perfect use of space.”

Remodel of the space includes updates to safety equipment as well as installation of video cameras and medical monitors to monitor patients’ sleep. Western Washington Medical Group also is converting some of the space into administrative offices.

Overseeing the operation will be Carol Vanderwoude, who recently was named the center’s clinical director.

Formerly a supervisor at Providence Everett Medical Center’s Sleep Disorders Center, Vanderwoude will be responsible for organizing, coordinating, overseeing and controlling the workflow and daily functions of the center, The Everett Clinic said. She also will work closely with physicians from Western Washington Medical Group and The Everett Clinic.

Medalia Medical Group
changes name

Medalia Medical Group has changed its name to Providence Physician Group.

The name change, which occurred in September, was done to more accurately reflect Providence Everett Medical Center’s role as Medalia’s parent organization, a Medalia official said.

“Patients have told us that they appreciate the relationship-focused approach provided by Medalia doctors, but didn’t know that it came from the same mission-minded organization as Providence Everett Medical Center,” said Carolyn Bodeen, director of operations for Medalia.

Along with the name change, Providence Physician Group is offering a new Web site, www.provpg.com, for those looking for a doctor.

Providence Physician Group has 45 doctors and eight physician assistants available within six primary-care clinic locations throughout Snohomish County. The group also offers specialty care in neurosurgery and plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Doctors develop health-care
offices in Silver Lake area

Three Everett health-care providers have partnered to develop 19th Avenue Place, an office building under construction in the Silver Lake area.

Dr. Shuichi Yamaguchi of Colby Dental Care said the catalyst for the project was a lack of parking space for patients coming to his downtown Everett office. He began looking to relocate and found an acre of land available across from Costco in south Everett.

He then joined forces with Dr. Roger Hall of Silver Lake Eye Clinic and Dr. Daryl Boekenoogen, an Everett orthodontist, and construction on the $3.5 million project began in July, Yamaguchi said.

Once completed, the two-story building, located at 10217 19th Ave. SE, will include 13,640 square feet of space, Yamaguchi said. The project also will include 62 parking spaces.

Construction is expected to be completed by mid-December, Yamaguchi said, with 85 percent of the space already spoken for — by the three doctors and the core tenant, Washington Mutual.

About 1,880 square feet is still available for lease, he said, noting that the group is hoping to fill it with another health-care professional.

Gaffney Construction Inc. and Botesch, Nash & Hall Architects, both of Everett, are the project’s general contractor and architect, respectively.
