AVIATION
Bruce Goetz has been elected to the board of examiners for the
accreditation program of the American Association of Airport Executives.
Goetz is superintendent of operations for the Snohomish County Airport.
CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE
Layne Sapp, founder and chief executive officer of wholesale lender
MILA Inc., was elected to the Board of Directors of the South Snohomish
County Chamber of Commerce.
CONSTRUCTION
Greg Morris has been hired as an assistant project manager and
Patrick LeBoeuf has been hired as a project engineer for Lynnwood-based
Aecon Buildings Inc. The two have joined the general contractor to help
facilitate its expanding growth in the Native American and gaming segment.
EDUCATION
Rachel Solemsaas is the new vice president for financial and administrative
services at Edmonds Community College. Most recently the chief financial
officer for the King County Department of Community and Human Services,
Solemsaas also has been the acting finance director for Snohomish County.
Brenda Newell,
an HIV/AIDS health educator with the Snohomish Health District, recently
received awards for her work with youth in Snohomish County, winning the
2003 Diversity Award from the state’s Department of Social and Health
Services and the Civic Award from the Imperial Sovereign Court of the
Empire of Snow and Ice.
ENGINEERING &
ENVIRONMENTAL
Allisona Greenberg, Kristen Pedersen, Steven Waldrop, Michael Gruzensky
and Jake Libaire have all joined Higa Burkholder Associates LLC,
a land-use planning and engineering firm based in Everett. Greenberg is
a landscape designer and planner with more than six years of experience.
Pedersen is a civil engineer and earned a master’s degree at the University
of Washington. Waldrop is a drafting technician. Gruzensky is a civil
engineer. And Libaire is a planner.
Andy Shepherd
has joined Shockey/Brent Inc. as an associate planner. A 2004 graduate
of Western Washington University with a bachelor’s degree in planning,
Shepherd has interned with Whatcom County Planning and Development Services
and Shockey/Brent.
FINANCIAL
Douglas Schwed has been appointed general counsel for MILA Inc.,
a wholesale mortgage banking company. Schwed, who has more than 20 years
of industry-related experience as a lawyer, will provide legal advice
and assistance to the Mountlake Terrace-based company. Also, Mike Taylor
has been appointed manager of MILA’s loan servicing department. Taylor,
formerly vice president of loan servicing with Citigroup, has more than
30 years of industry experience.
Kathy Prevette
has been promoted to assistant vice president of the credit administration
department at Frontier Bank in Everett.
HEALTH CARE
Physical therapist Rhonda Bentson-Becanic has joined Murphy’s Corner
Physical Therapy in Mill Creek. Bentson-Becanic is a graduate of the University
of Mary, N.D., and is experienced in inpatient therapy focused on geriatric
physical therapy.
GOLF
Mark Johnson, Left-TeeGolf.com president and founder, has been
hired as the director of business development for the No Divot Radio Network.
MARKETING &
SALES
Stevi Boskovich has been named marketing coordinator for the Everett
Events Center. She formerly was an account executive for KBSG-97.3 FM,
Entercom Seattle Radio. Also, Casey Price has been named group
sales coordinator of the Everett Events Center. He will assist Adam
Gesacion, Global Spectrum’s director of sales for the Everett Events
Center, in all group sales-related areas of business.
MEDIA
Melinda French Gates, wife of Microsoft Corp. Chairman Bill
Gates, has been elected to the board of directors of The Washington
Post Co., the parent company of the Snohomish County Business Journal
and The Herald. Along with the newspapers, the company also owns Newsweek
magazine, the Kaplan Inc. educational services business and several television
stations and cable TV systems.
NONPROFITS
Morris Van Horne has been elected president of the board for Habitat
for Humanity of Snohomish County. Van Horne is a vice president at Cascade
Bank. Van Horne, who had been serving as vice president, succeeds Randy
Sinn, who had been president for the past six years. Sinn will continue
to serve on the board as liaison for Habitat’s construction committee.
Also, the board has recently reunited with its Habitat for Humanity, Sky
Valley Chapter, in order to build on the strengths of both organizations
as the group begins to deploy construction projects countywide. All current
Sky Valley board members have been elected to the affiliate board. They
are Dean Franz, Barbara and Frank McLaren, Lee Sells and
Bill Chalfant. Other officers and directors elected include: Toni
Baumann, executive vice president; George Bowden, vice president
— central Snohomish County; and Chalfant, vice president — east Snohomish
County. Pam LeSesne will serve as family services liaison on the
board, and Franz will serve as community relations director.
Mike Zubovic
has been re-elected chairperson of the Board of Trustees for the YMCA
of Snohomish County for 2004-2005. Zubovic, vice president of finance
and computer information systems for Goodrich Corp. Aviation Technical
Services, also was elected to a three-year term on the board. Serving
with him as vice-chairs are Brenda Baltrusch, senior vice president
of private client services for Wells Fargo/Ragen MacKenzie, and Carol
Whitehead, superintendent of Everett Public Schools. Other officers
are Treasurer Jim Sporrong, director of operations support for
Verizon Communications, and Secretary John Haskell, vice president
of ABD Insurance and Financial Services. Immediate past chair is Fred
Safstrom, executive director of the Everett Public Facilities District.
Elected to the Board of Trustees for a three-year term are: Gigi Burke,
Crown Distributing; Jack Courrier, DDS; Thomas Maxwell III,
the Boeing Co.; Safstrom; and Haskell. Craig Collar of Kimberly-Clark
Corp. was elected to a one-year term. Newly elected to the Board of Trustees
are: Thomas Braaten, Bank of America; Janice Ellis, Snohomish
County prosecuting attorney; Linda Jones, Tulalip Tribes; and David
Brooks, Providence Everett Medical Center. Elected as a trustee emeritus
is Bob Drewel, Puget Sound Regional Council. John Mohr,
Port of Everett, is leaving the board after seven years of service.
Josh Reiman
has been hired as the events planner for the Snohomish County Chapter
of the American Red Cross. The position supports chapter fund-raising
and other external events promoting Red Cross visibility and community
awareness. Reiman, an Everett native, is a 1999 graduate of Cascade High
School and received a bachelor’s degree in communications from Pacific
Lutheran University.
PRINTING
John Solheim of Everett has joined Evergreen Printing & Graphics
as an account executive.
REAL ESTATE
Carolyn Ableman, Snohomish County chief deputy auditor, recently
was named to the Property Records Industry Association Board of Directors.
She will serve a two-year term.
Nick Southard
has joined Windermere Real Estate’s Lynnwood office as a sales associate.
Southard previously was a sales associate with Skyline Properties in Seattle.
Arin Becker and B. Jon Boyce have joined Windermere’s Mukilteo
office as sales associates. Becker has been a bookkeeper/receptionist
with NW Construction & Improvements in Seattle for more than four years,
and Boyce had owned Arbors Plus in Mukilteo for two years. Staci Cogar
and Shirley Hudson have joined Windermere’s Monroe office as sales
associates. Cogar previously worked for Goff Chaffee Geddes of Bellevue
as a certified public accountant, and Hudson previously was a director
with Fujitsu and a sales associate with Windermere’s Sequim office.
Brian Stuchell
has been hired as an investment sales specialist at Coast Real Estate
Services in Everett.
