Edmonds Community College recently received support from the Washington Campus Compact to boost its number of AmeriCorps volunteers to 57, the school said.

Along with two full-time AmeriCorps volunteer positions, EdCC received $82,250 to pay scholarships of $1,000 to $2,362 to 55 more part-time volunteers in the Students in Service program, the college said.

The program is an AmeriCorps initiative of the Washington Campus Compact, a statewide coalition of college and university presidents dedicated to providing service opportunities for students.

At EdCC, the volunteers will help organize or participate in service-learning projects for classes, the college said, noting that last year, five AmeriCorps members at the college helped recruit and advise 98 student volunteers providing 3,992 hours of service to 44 different community organizations.

In the past, students have volunteered for nonprofit groups such as Housing Hope, Edmonds Boys & Girls Club and the Lynnwood Senior Center.
