Three Snohomish County
companies are in line to receive federal contracts worth a total of $26
million, officials said.
Sound and Sea Technology
of Edmonds will receive a five-year, $13.5 million contract with the U.S.
Navy to provide ocean engineering expertise. The Procurement Technical
Assistance Center at the Snohomish County Economic Development Council
helped the company land the contract, according to U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee,
D-Wash., who announced the contract.
A Mukilteo company,
Combimatrix Technology, will receive $6 million to develop a device that
detects biological and chemical warfare agents.
And Boundary Layer
Research of Everett will receive $6.5 million to provide the U.S. Marine
Corps with tail-boom strakes for AH-1 Cobra attack helicopters. Strakes
are fins attached to helicopter tails that redirect airflow, improving
the aircraft’s performance. Along with the contract, BLR recently was
recognized by the EDC and the U.S. Export Assistance Center for its success
in exporting its strakes to nine countries.
