EDUCATION
“Gidget” Terpstra has been appointed to Shoreline Community College’s Board of Trustees. She replaces Sarah Phillips, who retired from the board after 10 years of service. Terpstra is the Readiness to Learn family advocate for Parkwood Elementary School and the district homeless education liaison for the Shoreline Public Schools District.

Susan Douglas Franzosa is the new director and professor of education at the University of Washington, Bothell. She previously was director of the women’s studies program at the University of New Hampshire.

ENGINEERING & ENVIRONMENTAL
University Mechanical Contractors Inc. of Mukilteo announced the following promotions and new hires: Robin Cowper has been promoted to marketing manager; Adam Jeske has been promoted to project manager; Joe Gehr has been hired as a senior project manager; Rosalie Baxter has been hired as a project engineer; Lise Van Deusen has been hired as a marketing assistant; and Paul Donohue has been hired as a project manager.

Leslie Jonsson, project engineer with CDi Engineers of Lynnwood, recently earned her Washington professional engineering license. Jonsson’s expertise is in the design of mechanical HVAC and plumbing systems, and she is a LEED-accredited professional.

Edwardo Garcia, an engineer with Zipper Zeman Associates Inc. of Lynnwood, has obtained his professional engineering license in Washington state. Garcia has more than nine years of geotechnical engineering, material testing and construction monitoring experience in Washington and Arizona.

Donna Waiss has been hired as a project accounting specialist, and Kelly Wicklund has been hired as administrative assistant for the Lynnwood office of Sparling, an electrical engineering consulting firm.

FINANCIAL
Scott Hopper has joined The Bank of Washington as a commercial lender in its Lynnwood office. Hopper formerly was a lender with Prime Pacific Bank. Also, Joe Runte has been promoted to senior vice president and chief financial officer for the bank. He previously was controller and vice president.

Nicole Scott has been appointed compliance manager assistant for MILA Inc., a wholesale, nonprime lender also doing business as Mortgage Investment Lending Associates. Scott joins compliance manager Sandra Thomas, former senior financial examiner in Olympia.

Valerie Bradford has been promoted to operations officer at Frontier Bank’s Arlington office. She has 11 years of banking experience. Also, Sharon Gray has been promoted to accounting officer of Frontier’s financial control department. Gray has been in banking for 27 years and joined Frontier in 1982 when it merged with Citizens Bank.

Marv Idso has been hired as vice president and Snohomish County region retail sales manager for Horizon Bank and will be located at the bank’s recently opened Lynnwood office. He has more than 20 years of banking experience, including managing multiple retail offices, most recently at Washington Mutual. In addition to his role as retail sales manager, Idso will assume direct leadership of Horizon’s Marysville office, which is scheduled to open later this year.

Gualberto “Pops” Martinez has been promoted to vice president at Everett-based Cascade Bank. He has been the network systems engineer for the bank for the past seven years; he has been working in the information technology field for 15 years. Terry Stull has been promoted to senior vice president at Cascade Bank. Stull has been controller for the bank for the past 12 years and has worked in its accounting department for 19 years. Debbie Bronson has been promoted to senior vice president at Cascade Bank. Bronson serves as human resources director for the bank and has 27 years of human resources and financial services experience. Lori McNeil has been appointed vice president and marketing director at Cascade Bank. McNeil has 14 years of experience in financial services marketing.

Fred Sjoholm has been appointed to the board of directors for First Heritage Bank. Formerly the chairman for Hascal Sjoholm & Co. PS, Sjoholm has worked with First Heritage for 22 years and was the bank’s auditor until 1996.

GOVERNMENT
Connie Marshall is the new regional advocate for the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Office of Advocacy for Region X, covering Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. Marshall, a member of the Bellevue City Council and currently the city’s mayor, has served as chair of the Growth Management Policy Board of the Puget Sound Regional Council, which coordinates land-use policies for a four-county region.

HEALTH CARE
Art Tasaka has joined Radia, a radiology/vascular group operating in the Pacific Northwest, as imaging centers manager and will oversee the day-to-day business operations of the Radia imaging centers in Everett and Totem Lake.

Physical therapist Christina Lee has joined Mukilteo Physical Therapy. She will lead the new women’s health program at the Mukilteo clinic, which will offer specialized therapy for women experiencing urinary incontinence, back pain related to pre- and post-pregnancy, and pelvic pain.

Bruce Wietharn has been hired as a comprehensive ophthalmologist and eye surgeon at the Harman Eye Clinic in Arlington. Wietharn is a former Navy medical lieutenant and is a graduate of the Jules Stien Institute.

INSURANCE
Everett Allstate Insurance agent Paul Gray recently received the Agency Hands in the Community award for his commitment to volunteering. With the award comes a $500 grant from the Allstate Foundation for Junior Achievement of Greater Puget Sound, a nonprofit organization with whom Gray volunteers. Also, Edmonds Allstate Insurance agent Gail Welfringer recently received the Agency Hands in Community Award and a $500 grant from the Allstate Foundation for the Edmonds Fire Safety Foundation, with whom she volunteers.

NONPROFITS
Four new members have been elected to the YMCA of Snohomish County Board of Trustees. They are: Thomas Braaten, senior vice president, Bank of America; Janice Ellis, Snohomish County prosecuting attorney; Linda Jones, general manager, Tulalip Tribes; and David Brooks, chief operating officer, Providence Everett Medical Center. Ellis and Jones were elected for a three-year term, Brooks for a two-year term and Braaten for a one-year term.

PORTS
Port of Everett Marina Operations Manager Dean Shaughnessy recently was elected president of the Pacific Coast Congress of Harbormasters and Port Managers, an organization that serves to promote the marina industry and establish uniformity in operation and management of marina and harbor facilities. He will serve a one-year term as president, having held the position of vice president since 2003.

Scott Grindy has been hired as manager for the Port of Everett’s marine terminals. Grindy, an Everett resident, is the former director of facilities at the University of Washington, Bothell, and Cascadia Community College shared campus. Also, Eric Russell, the Port of Everett’s senior accountant, has been promoted to director of properties and development. He will be responsible for overseeing all commercial and industrial real estate property management, marketing and development for the port. Russell replaces Bob McChesney, who recently accepted a position as the executive director for the Port of Port Angeles.

REAL ESTATE
Mark Rowe has joined Opus Northwest LLC as a senior real estate manager. His initial focus will be on the Opus Northpointe Corporate Campus in Lynnwood, Snoqualmie Ridge Business Park and the Opus I-90 industrial project in Preston, along with eastside developments. Rowe has been in the commercial real estate development industry since 1993, most recently as the senior development manager with the Quadrant Corp.

Robert Allred has joined Windermere Real Estate’s Mukilteo office as a sales associate. He previously was a sales associate with Century 21 Smith/Ring in Lynnwood. Jon Brunner has joined Windermere’s Lake Stevens office as a sales associate. He previously worked for Harmon Glass for 35 years and had been a market manager. Larry Will and Rebecca Will have joined Windermere’s Everett-South office as sales associates. They previously were sales associates with Skyline Properties in Seattle.

Patrick Gemma has been appointed development manager for the Panattoni Development Co.’s Seattle office. He will supervise the company’s Everett industrial project. Gemma has worked as development manager at the company’s Portland office for the past four years.

SERVICE GROUPS
Pete Kinch recently was installed as president for the Rotary Club of Everett-Port Gardner. He replaces Chuck Morrison. The former mayor of Everett, Kinch is president of Diversified, a center for the developmentally disabled.

SIGNAGE
Ronald Jacobs of Barry Neon Sign Systems in Everett has been elected president of the Northwest division of World Sign Associates.

TECHNOLOGY
Gregory Hinckley was named to the Board of Directors for Everett-based Unova. He also will serve on its audit and compliance committee. Hinckley is president and chief operating officer of Mentor Graphics Corp. of Wilsonville, Ore.
