Armed man shot by deputies in Arlington

ARLINGTON -- Two Snohomish County Sheriff’s deputies opened fire on a man armed with a handgun on the front porch of a home here Thursday evening.

The man was transported to a nearby hospital and from there was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. His condition and identity were not available this afternoon.

The deputies were responding to a 9:45 p.m. 911 call from a woman who told dispatchers that she was being threatened by a man with a gun at a home in the 11000 block of 228th Street NE, authorities said. They have not yet described the relationship between the man and woman. Police say they have responded to domestic dispute calls at the same house in the past.

Several deputies arrived on scene and approached the house, which is set back about 100 yards from the road.

Police say the man was armed with a handgun and standing outside the home on the porch. He was shot after refusing to comply with orders from deputies, police say.

The deputies who fired their guns were placed on administrative leave, which is routine after police-involved shootings.

One of the deputies is 38 and has worked with the sheriff’s office since 2003. The deputy has previous law enforcement experience.

The second deputy is 32 and has worked with the sheriff’s office since 2007. He also has previous law enforcement experience.

The shooting is being investigated by the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team.
